If you have fond memories of playing Konami's Asterix beat 'em up in the arcades or watching the old cartoons on a knackered VHS, you'll probably be excited about the news we're about to share.
Recently, the publisher Microids and developer OSome Studio announced the Gaulish warriors will be returning in a new 3D action-adventure beat 'em up, called Asterix & Obelix XXXL: The Ram From Hibernia (as spotted by Gematsu and Nintendo Life). The game will be coming to modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) on October 13th. It will also be available in two separate physical editions.
The first of these is a limited edition, which includes a copy of the game, three lithographs, and two sticker sheets. And then there's a more expensive collector’s edition, which includes an additional 18-centimeter Obelix figurine.
Asterix & Obelisk first appeared in the Franco-Belgian comic Pilote back in 1959 and made their video game debut all the way back on the Atari 2600 in 1983. Since then, they've appeared in countless video games, including the XXL series, to which this most recent title belongs.
In Asterix & Obelix XXXL: The Ram From Hibernia, you and up to three other players will have to fight your way through six levels, battling Romans and searching for collectibles. Your ultimate goal is to save a chieftain's golden ram, which has been stolen by the invading Roman army. You can check out the trailer for the game below:

These XXL games are terrible, clunky 3D-ified monstrosities which never should have existed. But they keep making them, so someone must be buying them.
Now Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All is a gorgeous 2D work of art which really does the comics justice.
