As reported by Gosukkyu earlier today on Twitter, this Friday marked the grand final ceremony of the Shueisha and Konami Action & Shooting contest.
This is a competition that let indie creators pitch their own reboots of classic Konami and Hudson Soft games for the chance to win ¥2M and the development costs needed to bring the project to life for real.
Creators pitched reboots to Star Soldier, Parodius, Twinbee, and Pooyan, but Konami announced the winner to be Naramura from the indie development group Nigoro with their reimagining of the platform adventure game The Maze of Galious. This potentially means that we'll be seeing a remake of the influential title in the not-so-distant future.
The Maze of Galious came out for the MSX and Famicom in 1987. It is the second in the Knightmare trilogy, comprised of Knightmare, The Maze of Galious, and Shalom: Knightmare III. The first two games tell the story of the warrior Popolon and princess Aphrodite, while the last game follows a college student transported to the Grecian Kingdom. We'll keep you updated as soon as we hear more about this potential remake!
Have you ever played The Maze of Galious or any of the other Knightmare games? Let us know in the comments!
