Hardly anything makes us smile more than hearing the composer Takenobu Mitsuyoshi's singing along to the Daytona USA soundtrack. So when we came across this tweet from the Twitter account SegaHolic, featuring Mitsuyoshi performing karaoke while playing the game, we knew we had to dig a little deeper and find the source (which, we admit, wasn't that really hard at all).
In 2012, to mark the release of Daytona USA on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, Sega of America invited Mitsuyoshi to their offices to film a video for its YouTube channel.
In the video, Mitsuyoshi sits behind the wheel to try out the game's karaoke mode, before breaking out into a beautiful rendition of Rolling Start while swinging the wheel around enthusiastically. The karaoke mode featured 4 of the game's tracks to sing along to, but sadly, we only got to see him demonstrate one. Nevertheless, to soothe this wound, he performed an energetic rendition of the game's main theme to finish potentially the best piece of video game marketing we've ever seen.
Beyond Daytona USA, you might recognize Takenobu Mitsuyoshi from his contributions to several other legendary game soundtracks, including Virtua Fighter 3, Burning Rangers, and the arcade version of Sega Rally Championship. And that's just a small sampling of the work he's done.
