Namco's Assault has been announced as the next arcade game to release as part of Hamster Corporation's Arcade Archives collection (as spotted by ohfivepro). The multi-directional tank shooter will release on September 29th, 2022, and will be available for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Assault first landed in American and Japanese arcades back in 1988 and was one of the earliest games to use the Namco System 2 board, which allowed for sprite scaling and rotation. The game puts this to good use, with players able to spin their tanks in all directions and drive over launchpads to fly high up into the air.
It's also worth mentioning that Assault also featured a ton of incredible talents behind the scenes, including Gundam artist Kunio Okawara, who designed the player and enemy tanks, and Shinjo Hosoe and Kazuo Noguchi, who worked on its phenomenally bassy and percussive score.
Assault received a remaster shortly after its original 1988 release, called Assault Plus, though it's unclear whether this will be included with this new port. Both games were previously part of the Namco Museum Vol. 4 collection released in 1997. It If you want to take a look at the game before it launches, you can see it in action below:

I remember playing this back then. It was pretty fun, it used dual flight sticks to maneuver:

I hope hamster maps the the movement sticks correctly, this is something the PS1 didn’t do correctly and it was hard to maneuver your tank.
