New Wave Toys has released its 1/6-scale reproduction of the arcade classic Missile Command, and it's already available to buy from the manufacturer's website.
The Cold War shooter about protecting ground bases from incoming ballistic missiles was released in arcades back in 1980 and has since become a fixture of most retro gaming centers around the world. But now you can bring it home with this lovingly-made reproduction, available in two variants.
The first variant is a standard edition similar to the cabinet you'd find in arcades and is priced at $149.99, while the second is a field-test version that is much closer to Atari's pre-production unit and costs $169.99. Both machines are licensed by Atari and feature the classic trackball controls, which you'll likely be familiar with from the original arcade cabinet.
According to a press release, the standard edition comes with the following features:
- Replica Missile Command arcade machine miniaturized in 1/6-scale
- Trak-Ball XL, a free-spinning, extra-large Trak-Ball that provides smooth and accurate control
- CRT FX, a convex, transparent lens that transforms the LCD screen to look like a CRT television screen
- Plays the original arcade Missile Command ROM
- Arcade Operator’s menu with customizable dip switch and cabinet settings
- Cabinet constructed from traditional materials: wood, metal, and plastic
- Atari Volcano Lighted Buttons
- RepliCade signature amplified mono audio reproduction with volume control
- High-resolution cabinet art reproduction on quality 3M vinyl overlays
- High score saving with non-volatile memory
- Built-in, high-capacity rechargeable battery
- Premium LCD color screen 4:3 aspect ratio (horizontal orientation)
The field-test version, on the other hand, includes:
- Everything in the Standard Edition, plus:
- Field-Test Edition Illuminated Marquee Panel
- Field-Test Edition pre-production Control Panel
- Atari’s Triple Slot diecast metal coin door
- Field-Test Edition professionally reproduced cabinet art
- Limited Edition / Individually numbered
If you want to bring a little bit of the arcade home with you, you just need to head on over to the New Wave Toys website.
There are also Q*Bert and 1942 RepliCade cabinets available to buy now, and Dragon's Lair and Space Ace cabinets coming soon. Something worth noting is that the shipping to non-US addresses doesn't factor in the local taxes, import duties, or brokerage fees applied by overseas carriers, so they may be a bit more costly if you're going to purchase them outside of the States.
