Retro-Bit Announces Battletoads & Double Dragon And Gleylancer Reprints

More classic titles for your SNES and Mega Drive / Genesis

Retro-Bit has just revealed that it is republishing two more classic 16-bit titles in physical form.

First up is the SNES version of Battletoads & Double Dragon, which will sit very nicely on the shelf next to the NES version it released previously.

This will cost $54.99 and comes in deluxe cardboard packaging. The cartridge will be made from transparent green plastic. Pre-orders open today and close on the 27th of December.

The second game is the classic Mega Drive / Genesis shmup Gleylancer, which was previously exclusive to Japan and fetches high prices on the secondary market. The game has already had a physical re-release in recent years, again exclusive to Japan, and is also available as a digital download on modern systems, like Switch and PS5.

Like Battletoads & Double Dragon, Gleylancer goes up for pre-order today.

Gley Lancer (it annoys me it’s clearly NOT “Grey”) is also available I believe on the current Virtual Console, for the Wii U. Or it was…..

Meh I don't like the label on these repro carts, if you're not going to at least make it look like the original ones then don't bother.

@Serpenterror is it fair to call the Gley Lancer cart a repro, since this the first official NA release of the game……?

@Magrane It still counts as a repro since Sega had nothing to do with it. The cartridge is a reproduction cart and not an official cart from Sega or any partners of Sega. Anyways my point is not that they are repro but that they make em look cheap. I mean the Battletoads Double Dragon cartridge is just the freaking logo, at the very least they could had added some artwork to it like the original.

This is what a better repro cart should look like.

Take out the Nintendo logos and stuffs if they want but at least give us a cool artwork like the original.

I bet they won't, but it would be really nice if they actually fixed the controls in Battletoads & Double Dragon on SNES, because, not only do they feel sluggish and avoiding the enemy attacks near impossible and a bit cheap at times, but I think I actually recall them being just badly mapped to the SNES controller too. I honestly feel that with these re-releases, not tweaking stuff like that is just pure lazy.

@Serpenterror I do understand your viewpoint however for me because it’s an official licensed release versus someone just putting it together with no prior permission, that it qualifies as non-repro. Sega doesn’t own the IP or we would see their name on it. Also I don’t think they can add the Sega approved seal anymore OFFICIALLY as they don’t give it out anymore.
