It's been 15 years since the last Wario Land game, Wario Land: Shake It, was released on the Nintendo Wii, and since then, fans have been clamoring for a sequel that still looks no closer to appearing than in previous years.
Nevertheless, it seems that there are a group of passionate indie developers ready to serve up a slice of chaotic and cartoony gameplay for those who still have the appetite for this brand of action-platformer. We already knew about Summitsphere's upcoming ANTONBLAST, but recently there was another game that we stumbled across that arguably owes a debt of gratitude to the Wario Land games.
Pizza Tower is a 2D platformer, available on Steam, which combines the off-the-wall, elastic animation of a '90s cartoon show with the satisfying block-breaking and butt-stomping of the Wario Land series. It follows the surprisingly agile chef Peppino Spaghetti, who is on a mission to destroy the titular Pizza Tower in order to save his restaurant from ruin. Along the way, you'll climb through the many themed floors of the tower, battling monsters while collecting toppings that are trapped inside cages.
The game is now available on Steam for £16.75, with the regional price set to drop due to an unfortunate pricing error. It currently has over 1500 reviews on the storefront and holds an overwhelmingly positive rating. As a result, we think it's one indie game that's well worth taking a look at!
