On February 29th, 1988, the Aleste series kicked off on the Sega Mark III console. Because it launched in a leap year, this isn't strictly the 35th, but that isn't going to stop us from posting about it.
Developed by Compile, Aleste would spawn a series of games such as MUSHA Aleste, Super Aleste, Robo Aleste and GG Aleste II – some of which were pulled together for the excellent Aleste Collection on modern systems.
Released outside of Japan as Power Strike – which would get its own sequel on the Master System in 1993, exclusive to Europe and Brazil – Aleste is still going strong today, with developer M2 working on Aleste Branch and SenXin Aleste.
