The publisher Flyhigh Works revealed today on Twitter that Studio Pico's and Esquadra's "hardcore" ninja sidescroller Shinobi Non Grata will be heading to Steam next month on May 25th (thanks Gematsu!).
The game takes place in Japan during the 9th year of the Tenpō era (1838). In it, you will take control of Kaina, a descendant of a group of shinobi famed for their ability to fight demons, who is tasked with defeating the leader of the Oboro Ittō clan Genba Kisaragi. Kisaragi is intent on overthrowing the Bakufu government, forming an alliance with a group of demons including a Jorōgumo (a shapeshifting spider) and a Nue (a creature with the head of a monkey, the body of a raccoon dog, the legs of a tiger, and a snake for a tail).
You will therefore need to travel across Japan, through environments like an abandoned shrine, a valley of ghosts, and a ninja mansion, using your 7 shinobi weapons including a Shuriken, Kusarigama, and Elekiter to defeat anything that stands in your way (either human and inhuman).
Shinobi Non Grata is also scheduled to hit PS4 and Nintendo Switch at a later date and will be receiving physical editions for both machines from Strictly Limited Games.
If you want to stay up to date on its PC release, we recommend wishlisting the title now on Steam. And if you're somehow still undecided, you can check out the trailer below or play the demo!
