The new trailer for Neill Blomkamp's upcoming Gran Turismo live-action movie has just dropped, and as well as showcasing plenty of storyline (which is based on the rise of real-life racer Jann Mardenborough) and some exciting wheel-to-wheel action, it also has a neat little nod to the origins of the series.
Early on in the trailer, Mardenborough (played by Archie Madekwe) listens on as his father criticizes him for sitting on his games console all day long. As the tirade continues, a stack of Gran Turismo video games are shown, going right the way back to the second title on PlayStation 1.

Mardenborough's rise through the GT Academy is shown during the footage, with David Harbour (Stranger Things), Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings), Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell (who is married to Christian Horner, Team Principal of the Red Bull Formula One team – a neat connection for petrol heads) getting screen time during the trailer.
Gran Turismo hits cinemas on August 11th, 2023.

"Latest Gran Turismo Movie Trailer Doesn't Forget Its Roots
The OG!"
"...going right the way back to the second title..."
ok, where's the OG? i loved that game SO much, i cant begin to tell you. best racing game of all time, one of my most missed games from childhood.
PS - the acting appears to be... not good. 😐 this is embarrassing already.
Well GT7 seems to not in other areas.
If it has the 'beginner to pro' sure it's got that to it. It's what I'd heard the movie was about. Which is fair enough.
Boo for not including the original. Still my favourite. All games after that just have too many cars for my liking.
@GravyThief
GT3 a-spec was also excellent and had a scaled back roster compared to 2 ✌️
@-wc- thanks, I have that game so I’ll be sure to play that one if/when I come to play a PS2 GT game
