Update [Wed 3rd May, 2023 12:45 BST]: More footage of the new Mega Drive/Genesis fighting game Go For It! has appeared online.
On Monday, the I Heart Pizza Twitter account shared a 35-second clip of its upcoming fighting game in action, featuring the two characters G-Lo and XRis.
Then, on the same day, the YouTuber Retro Gamer Boy previewed an early build of the fighter, putting together a fantastic in-depth look at the game with plenty of new footage. This includes a great demonstration of some of the other fighters like Juan Condor, Kione, and Afroditty in action. You can watch the full video below!
Original Article [Fri 21st Apr, 2023 10:30 BST]: The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis had its fair share of fighting games, from Eternal Champions to ports of Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition, and Fatal Fury: King of Fighters. Recently, however, another challenger appears to have thrown its hat into the ring.
The Fort Wayne-based video game company I Heart Pizza last month announced the title of its new fighting game, Go For It!, for the 16-bit machine. The project has been teased for a while now, with the company's energetic owner John Springer appearing in various videos hyping up this latest project, while not giving too much away. Now, though, it appears the company has finally decided on the official name, which seems fitting given the incredible scope of the project.
In the past, I Heart Pizza was responsible for another homebrew title, the Fort-Wayne-set beat 'em up Summit City Showdown, but this appears to be a much more ambitious and involved project for Springer and Co.
In a video posted earlier this month, Springer said the following about the project:
“It takes a lot of nerve to try and create an all-time classic fighting game. That’s exactly what we’re going to do. And you know why, because when I was a kid, I grew up with the Sega Genesis. I never fit in, but that console brought me joy through my hardest times when I was lonely, when I stage 4 beat cancer, and I want to pay that forward and introduce a whole new generation locally and beyond to my favourite gaming console of all time. I love Fort Wayne. I love the Sega Genesis. I heart pizza. And we’re gonna go for it. We’re gonna go for it. We’re gonna GO FOR IT!”
In response to a comment about a possible release date for a demo, the I Heart Pizza account responded with the following information:
"Not yet, but we're beyond excited for people to play the game! It's our first release, and while it's about 70% finished, we really want to make the best first impression that we can. Going to take as much time as needed to get things right!"
It's exciting news for Mega Drive/Genesis fans, and we definitely admire Springer's enthusiastic approach to marketing the project. We're certainly interested in seeing more and will endeavour to keep you updated as new information becomes available.
