Video Games New York has announced that it has partnered with homebrew developer Retro Sumus to release a new physical edition of the 3D Dreamcast Space Harrier homage Xenocider (in the US, at least). The announcement was made alongside the news that Video Games New York has also released a physical version of the console calibration software 240P Test Suite for the system.
The third-person, on-rails shooter Xenocider was originally announced back in 2014 during an interview with Dreamcast Junkyard. Following that, a Kickstarter campaign was launched in 2016 but failed to hit its funding target, leading the developer Retro Sumus to cancel it and find other ways to finance the project. It was eventually released on the Sega Dreamcast in early 2021 in both digital and physical formats, receiving some pretty stellar reviews from various retro sites at the time.
However, the first run of physical editions has since sold out on Retro Sumus's website, meaning that digital has pretty much been the easiest way to purchase it for a while now.
As a result, Video Games New York has released a new standard edition of the game with revised cover art to provide collectors in the US with an alternative. This new physical version of the game will cost players $39.99 and should fit right in with the rest of your NTSC Dreamcast collection.
Here's the description of the game from Video Games New York:
"Prepare to embark on an epic journey as you take control of a brave space explorer on a mission to save humanity from an alien menace. With its captivating storyline, breathtaking visuals, and pulse-pounding gameplay, Xenocider delivers an unforgettable gaming experience on the Sega Dreamcast.
"Featuring stunning 3D graphics and fast-paced gameplay, Xenocider showcases the full potential of the Dreamcast console. Engage in intense battles, navigate treacherous environments, and unleash powerful weapons as you fight to survive against hordes of extraterrestrial enemies.
"Experience the nostalgia of classic gaming with the cutting-edge technology of today. Xenocider Sega Dreamcast is the ultimate must-have for retro gaming enthusiasts and collectors. Step into the shoes of a hero and save humanity from the brink of destruction, only at VGNYsoft Games."
If you want to pick up a copy for yourself, you should head over to the Video Games New York website. As for those outside the US, it appears digital is still the way to go. Either that or European sites like Pixel Heart (who appear to still have a few copies of the original run for sale).
