Here's A First Look At The SN Operator, Your Next Essential SNES Accessory

man, if i didn't already have so many ways to play game boy (two sps, a micro, a pocket, a game boy player, a super game boy and an analogue pocket) and snes games (super nt) i'd be super interested in these especially for their cheap costs. i also don't have a reliable laptop right now and my only decent computer right now is an aging iMac but at some point i'd really like to get these mainly for their save backup capabilities

The GB Operator is awesome. I’d be very into this if I didn’t already have a Retrode. I’m sure it’ll be great.

Definitely will get this. I'm a big fan of having multiple options to play my games, so this sounds great.

And being able to back up my cartridges' save files is great

Now that is small, and very cool.

There has to be some way of adding a very simple shell to it and making it look like a little stand or whatever, maybe something like the one for PS2 back in day (but in SNES grey), so it basically looks like a little SNES cartridge greek statue or something when sitting on your desk.

Edit: Ah, I already see that's exactly what they did for the Game Boy version. So, yeah, something like that for the SNES one would be sweet.

Edit: I see they mention GB Studio with Game Boy version. I want something like that for the SNES too. The more casual and latent SNES development community is just waiting for such a thing.

It would be so cool if we could somehow get brand new re-releases of basically all the major SNES titles in physical boxed cartridge form to go alongside something like this, so you could purchase this and new games and know you'd have something that would be future proof for maybe the next 20+ years or whatever.

The original SNES games are all mostly in crap condition--more the boxes and stuff than the actual cartridges I guess--so, for someone like me, it's a bit off-putting to have such a slick new bit of physical hardware but only old shabby games to plug into it. It's also a hassle just getting them now anyway, because of the whole collector's scene and prices being bloated to unreasonable levels and such.

I just like both my physical games and console hardware to be in basically new condition and reasonably priced.

I love my GB Operator. The hardware is sleek and the software makes everything so easy. I'm excited to try the SN Operator.

Will it work on most Linux distributions(e.g. Raspbian/RaspberryOS for Raspberry Pi)?

Yep, i guess this is more for people like me that already have a Super Nintendo Collection, rather than People that want to start one.

I personally have a Retrode2, but such devices are nice to backup Save Games and put some back you have played on Emulator, Everdrive or FPGA.

The nice Thing about the Retrode2 are also the Controller Ports.

I played Doom 2016 with the Super Nintendo Mouse for fun and i can use the 8Bitdo Mega Drive wireless Controller with it, as it only works with the 2,4Ghz Dongle wireless.

People that don't have a Collection, don't start it.
The Prices are insane and getting good Quality is hard.
Even oficial Repros are variing in Quality (Retrobit have been fine till yet, others as Wild Guns not so).

The two things I know the Retrode doesn't handle with SNES is SA-1 carts (I think the original author said they didn't support because of fear of legal action from Nintendo over what would have been necessary to unlock the chip's additional antipiracy functions) and Nintendo Power (SF Memory) carts (apparently it worked in one firmware update but was removed in the final for being buggy. It wasn't easy for me to swap the firmware because I recall the officially supported flasher program required me to dig out my zombie Windows XP laptop.

What`s the point ? Playing original cartridges not on original hardware but on pc where tons of emus / roms are there ? Pointless IMHO
