These are nice options in the face of failing hardware that while no longer a business interest (or possibility) for Nintendo in this case, is still a pleasure to many folks.
I definitely remember having a spot of angst in the PS2 era about older 2D games and having a feeling that they could become lost in the pursuit of powerful 3D machines. Back then (and even just a few years ago) it was difficult to see how ‘period gaming’ I’ll call it, could have perpetuity.
CRT technology will be a harder one to preserve for those of us that still associate gaming with a phosphorus glow..
I guess it’s a currency-ification of physical video games and the gold rush is on. And then paralleling it is the industry’s own practice of turning everything within a modern video game into currency, and that gold rush is on. There’s a dollar pursuit on all sides
I’ve got NES cartridges and they’re useless to me. If they were sealed they’d still be useless, but some dude would unload a wheelbarrow of cash for them.. what a world
I’ve an iPhone and iPad but I Im not desperate to put the Genesis or NES library on them. That said, I’ll certainly try out anything that comes along out of curiosity
I bought this game as a kid because the box art looked cool. I was then amazed by that intro. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen on my Genesis or even TV screen before! One of the most nostalgic works of art for me, indeed..
@Poodlestargenerica well, as you said, Sakurai made an awesome game so there’s something Nintendo can work with. The idea is that Nintendo will pick up a niche audience title every now and then to flavor the catalog. Kid Icarus uprising sold much better than Bayonetta 1, for which Nintendo then funded two sequels. So a Kid Icarus Uprising followup is not out to lunch.
I think it’s possible Nintendo could put star fox and f-zero back on the front burners in the next cycle. Maybe even Kid Icarus as well. Every odd generation they pepper in some lesser hits for variety. I think variety is still a strategy for Nintendo even in this era reliant on the sure bets
I’m sure SM could cook up a halo-style game. I don’t think he was saying he’d have made a more successful Halo than bungee, so maybe not as big-talking as it first sounds.
Nintendo had their scrapes that’s for sure. Were it not for their strong vision of personal gaming from the get go, they’d probably not have held onto the market
I first learned of this game upon its WiiU VC release. After playing it there I was hopeful it would it land on the 3DS VC but it sadly never did. I hope some version of the game comes to Switch outside Japan but I’m not so sure..
I was in 9th grade and super excited for the system’s next FF. I had mixed feelings but i accepted it at the time. Don’t think I made it far into it and never went back since
I grew up with handhelds since the release of the Game Boy, unlike most of my friends who just played on consoles. So they’ve always had this very personal feeling to me. But the one that resonated with me the most was the 3DS. That’s the one I want to be buried with, lol
Crazy.. I can’t really recall any obsessive playing of FFVII myself, but it was a thrilling game to get into at the time. Really all PS1 RPGs were amazing to load up. One epic after another.
I was interested in Analogue’s Mega SG but really it lacked a certain Sega pizazz (or gaga, if you will). Also my Model 1 Genny is still ticking. But a Sega Neptune console preserving period hardware, now that’d be something really cool
