Sega's 16-bit Mega Drive / Genesis system is the company's most successful home console, so it's little wonder that the firm has chosen to release a second 'mini' variant of the platform with a selection of new games.

The Mega Drive / Genesis Mini 2 is based on the revised original model from the '90s and will come with both Mega Drive and Mega CD games pre-loaded.

One controller will come with the console at retail, but Sega has also confirmed that controllers from the first iteration will be compatible with the Mega Drive Mini 2. The box will also include a HDMI cable and USB power cable.

Depending on where you purchase your Mega Drive / Genesis Mini 2, you'll get a slightly different design. The European model uses red plastic on the power switch and reset buttons, while the Japanese version uses grey and blue plastic. The North American one (which is called Genesis, obviously) has a black power switch and reset button.

The Mega Drive Mini II / Genesis Mini II is now available for pre-order worldwide.

In Japan, Sega is releasing a cosmetic attachment which looks like the Mega CD 2 add-on. It did a similar thing with the original Mega Drive Mini. There's also going to be a USB control stick, too.
