Jon S. Baird's long-awaited Tetris movie will get its premiere at South by Southwest 2023 this March, it has been revealed.
The event, which "celebrates the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture", takes place between the 10th and 19th of March in Austin, Texas.
The movie (which will carry an R-rating for bad language) is based on the real-life chase to secure the rights to Alexey Pajitnov's iconic puzzler, with Rocketman star Taron Egerton taking on the role of Dutch businessman and developer Henk Rogers.
Nikita Yefremov stars as Pajitnov, while Roger Allam (V for Vendetta) plays the late tycoon Robert Maxwell. Ben Miles (Speed Racer) takes on the role of Nintendo's Howard Lincoln.
The movie will be available for streaming on Apple TV+ this year, but no solid date has been given.
Tetris was in the news recently thanks to a documentary series on ID and discovery+, which dug into the tragic story of Vladimir Pokhilko, the Russian academic and clinical psychologist who assisted Alexey Pajitnov in the creation of Tetris.
