We can't say that we're particularly huge fans of bullfighting here at Time Extension but throw in some mechanical bulls, laser beams, and glorious Neo-Geo-inspired visuals and you've definitely started to pique our interest.
Such is the case with Relevo Games' Bullfighter Neon, a new futuristic sports title that is heading to Steam at the end of this year (Q4 2023). We only came across the exciting new project yesterday after Jon Cortázar, the founder and CEO of Relevo, posted a brief video of the game on Twitter, but have already found ourselves adding it to our wishlists and can't wait to see more.
The title draws influence from many of the futuristic sports games released for the Neo Geo arcade system back in the '90s, like Windjammers and Super Baseball 2020, and sees players compete in a bullfighter circuit against mechanical beasts armed to the horns with weapons, rockets, and laser rifles. You'll have to avoid each beast's attack and wear them down to defeat them, while also dodging around the arena to avoid any projectiles launched your way.
According to the Steam description, there are six different bullfighters to choose from in the game, with each having their own unique backstory and nationality. In addition to this, there's also the ability to pick between a campaign and multiplayer modes, providing a few different options for how you want to proceed.
The game was originally funded through Kickstarter, where it raised €31,822 from 470 backers. Sadly, though, it missed its stretch goal to be ported to consoles. That means, for now at least, the only platform you'll be able to get it on in the future is PC.
