@nab1 Maybe so, but that's because it probably won't include the Ouya's best feature: an open platform. Otherwise at this point we know it is a console looking to be kickstarted, likely running Android. Pretty Ouya-ish.
@TenEighty The PR, despite the claim otherwise, is a vague tease. It doesn't even sound like they know what it is yet, but they do tout the ability to play classic games and since it is unlikely to include original hardware... It appears in part to be an emulation machine.
It could turn out like the VC on Wii or just preloaded software and could be neat, but straddling the line between classic and modern may be a decision that confuses the market as much as anything. The market never understood the Ouya, but they do understand classic plug-and-play devices.
I will say I am hopeful, not really about the Atari part but the success of an Android-based console could be a good thing. Especially if it lead to a revival of mobile developers pushing the envelope.
They are going to use Atari games to lure people into a crowd funding campaign. Color me skeptical, do they want to deliver a console or do they want that free capital?
EDIT: Read that PR, does that sound like a setup for a kickstarter or what? I worry the only good thing they have to show is the design. Tout the Atari name with a slick design to lather interest prior to KS launch... Makes too much sense.
@AshFoxX @B3ND3R Honestly I think you are a couple of jokers if you believe what you say. ET was never that important of a game. I lived through the Atari, most of my relatives owned one (not us). One even owned ET. This is just some exaggerated propaganda to attempt to transform the movie into a lucrative endeavor. It has very little to do with the history of games other than as an obvious footnote to the cynical practices of publishers in those early days.
And the fact that is was buried in a landfill is insignificant. Many corporations litterally bury their skeletons when a product doesn't pan out. Other than the scope, there is hardly anything abnormal or, honestly, interesting about this documentary.
Go ahead and watch it, but don't fool yourself with the significance of it all.
A portable without an accessible battery is like a console hard-wired to a TV. Completely unacceptable at this price range. And that's not even the biggest concern about the hardware. Can't objectively score it very high if using the same scale as other portables. If Vita and 3DS are in the 8-9 range, I don't see how this could score higher than a 6, really. Which is unfortunate.
Some of us like to be informed. Are we seriously harping on these staffers for going above and beyond to write informative articles that only occasionally veer outside the realm of Ninten?
Oh my, what a disappointing handheld. This thing should be glorious, but the missteps are far too numerous and inappropriate. The display and battery concerns, in particular, are outrageous considering the price. This seems designed to sap helpless collectors rather than offer a truly functional and durable device. What a shame.

So... We dug around in a landfill, got dirty, found some games that aren't worth playing... Wanna watch our movie?
Nope.
