Re: "Absolutely Horrid" - Is Nintendo Switch Online's Emulation Really That Bad?

Man, I dunno. Born in 81, playing games on CRTs since I was a kid, used to rock every Konami and Capcom game under the sun (still do regularly with Mega Man and Contra), and after reading this, I popped back on to the NSO to try Gradius and…I just beat the first two levels without dying?

Maybe it just varies from setup to setup, but saying that it’s unplayable, to me, feels wildly dramatic. I don’t ever want to discount anyone else’s experience since I’m not sure how they have things set up or running, but I’m sitting across the room from my television with a Pro controller in hand, and it feels absolutely fine.

It didn’t feel like I had to adjust or get used to anything, and I also game very regularly with classic hardware on a CRT, but everything on my end checked out.

I will absolutely say that if someone’s experience sucks, yeah, of course that’s an issue, and getting used to anything sort of input delay stinks, but like, whatever the current delay is set to, it doesn’t impede my ability to enjoy at all. If it were like a half second delay, yeah, all day long that’s an issue, but as is, any twitchy action game or shooter I’m currently playing seems to be completely playable.

That said, I’m hoping it can get fixed or optimized to the degree that anyone who struggles needs, because everyone should be able to enjoy it fully and not feel like there is concession, so - hopefully follow-up hardware and newer or cleaner emulation fixes that up.
