Well, I'll have to disagree with him about Japanese games. I think there's still a lot of originality and creativity going on, as well as some great retro throwbacks. Yeah, some high profile "me toos" but you get that in any region.
But yeah, the whole notion that you cam patent ideas is ridiculous.
I think it was Patton Oswald who said something along the lines of, "I only want to be in the best movies and the worst movies. I'm in this business for two things, the money and the stories, and the worst movies always have the best stories behind them."
That's from memory, so I'm most likely misquoting him a little, but it feels relevant.
