Re: Poll: Are Game Boy Games Still Worth Playing In 2023?

Pretty sure people on a retro gaming site are going to have very positive opinions about Game Boy games lol. Some are obviously better than others but the Wario Land trilogy, Link’s Awakening, the Oracle games, and Pokémon are all masterpieces that more than hold up in 2023.

Re: Upset By Zelda Being $70? We've Arguably Never Had It So Good

Buried lede: a new Super Nintendo (plus a great game, plus two controllers) would’ve set you back only 130 USD in 1994. Now a barebones Switch package costs over double that.

As for the price itself, of course nobody’s going to be excited about paying 90$ Canadian for a game. But I can respect a company that charges how much it’s worth and stands behind their product on the grounds that it’s a masterpiece with hundreds of hours of great content (if the first game is anything to go by) all at a universal, flat fee. That’s far better than selling a cheaper game while trying to nickel and dime players with micro transactions (including gambling in many cases) and other hidden costs, effectively price discriminating based on willingness to pay (the collectors edition arguably does that too but it has no effect on the game itself and there’s still only a flat additional fee). Besides, it will go on sale in a few years when the next Zelda comes out.

Re: Talking Point: Where Do You Stand On "Ethical Emulation"?

Piracy is as much about « video game preservation » as sending people death and rape threats was about « ethical video game journalism ». The games people pirate are almost all games that have been released in some capacity over the last 20 years, if not the last 2 years, and an infrequent release schedule isn’t justification to steal someone’s property (if there’s any doubt, piracy apologists always move the goalposts when the game is rereleased). Pay for your games.
