I still feel the best way to play DS is original hardware. Depending which model you buy it's still possible to get a DS for less than $100 bucks. Got a used DSi XL in great condition for 50 bucks a few years ago, then installed CFW and have tons of DS games loaded onto it now.
@MetaCrystal My only warning is that the game doesn't do a great job telling you what to do next. In FDC there's hints on what option you need to click to progress through the game. While in this it's a lot more trial and error in what you need to do next and there were moments where I had no clue how to progress.
It's very old school in that sense as it's missing quality of life additions like we saw with the FDC remakes. FDC is the better game but this is still a good time if you like adventure murder mysteries.
Hopefully we get an official remake of this from Nintendo one day but it's not looking likely at this point unfortunately. Playing Emio though it almost feels like they're teasing being able to play as Ayumi for an entire game. So who knows maybe they'll remake it but if I had to bet a new game would be more likely. If a new game does get made maybe Ayumi will get another chance as the main detective.
Guess our only hope to play this is through fan translations which hopefully get done someday.
This game actually came out before Famicom Detective Club and was most likely a direct inspiration to not only FDC but Ace Attorney as well. So it's not really a rip-off when it helped modernize the mystery novel adventure genre.
I really enjoyed reading the article. I'm not too familiar with Langrisser but I have played a bit of Der Langrisser and parts of the remake on Switch.
As a Fire Emblem fan I honestly wasn't a huge fan of commanding so many units in Langrisser it just felt tedious to go through my turns. I know the game will move the units automatically for you but even then the computer doesn't do a great job of placing them where I want. It just felt more of a slog to go through when compared to other strategy games.
But I can't deny that the turn based strategy is fun. The character designs are very 90s/late 80s which gives a charm to it and the soundtrack is pretty good.

Re: Not Used Your Wii U In A While? It Might Be Dead
Booted mine up a few weeks ago and still works fine thankfully.
