Re: 'Beyond The Ice Palace' Is Getting A Sequel, 36 Years Later

Guru_Larry

Beyond the Ice Palace was pitched as an official sequel to Ghosts n Goblins to Capcom, which they rejected, then Elite tried it to make it into a ThunderCats game, hence why the main character looks like Lion-O and the final boss looks like Mumm-Ra.

I did a video on it many many moons ago.

Re: "The Tourists Have Taken Everything" Laments Japanese Resident As Retro Runs Dry

'Tis true, Americans have also taken all our copies of Mega Man: The Wily Wars and Shenmue II.

Then again, we've taken a load of their copies of Earthbound, Super Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger.

Exclusivity migration is an issue caused by the original publishers back in the day.

Also, That "you need a Japanese address" can easily be flaunted, there's loads of companies that will act as a proxy for you to ship stuff to them, and then them to you. I did that a few years ago for a Japanese auction site for a collection of Sega Titan Games.

Re: Flashback: Gizmondo's Lavish Launch Party Had Everything, Except A Successful System

To be honest, not one of those celebs had any connection, let alone couldn't care less about video games, so no wonder why it bombed with marketing that completely missed the mark.

Then again, Gizmondo must have realized this towards the end, as they would badger the hell out of me when I was a presenter on Game Network to promote the thing there. They even loaned me a console to show off on TV, I say loan, as they went bust before I had a chance to return it, so I've still got the thing

I bought the first two back in the day, then collected the remain three years later.

But love all the hindsight stuff in there, unreleased games, like Hammerhead on the Konix and a Mega Drive port of Dynamite Dux!

Doesn't it also have the legendary image of a PC Engine's size being compared to a packet of Skips?

Re: Playing The CeX Retro Lottery

@Agent_P That's right, I had to spend ages explaining to them what the difference was, sending multiple photos.

Then they changed the price of the analogue stick, so I couldn't get a refund >.>

Re: Playing The CeX Retro Lottery

Their website is the real gamble. I've been ripped off multiple times, like a copy of Snatcher with half the box missing, but still charged full price. and being sent the wrong analogue PS1 controller, then having to go through mutiiple emails to explain the difference between the analogue and dual shock controllers.

Re: Before Stand-Up Comedy, Paul Chowdhry Had A 'Grey Import' Business

Guru_Larry

@Agent_P For me, it was mostly from adverts in magazines like CVG and Super Play for import games, There was also a stall at Wembley Market that was run by the people who went on to start CEX, and there was also a game shop in St. Albans called Software First I bought my Japanese Mega Drive from with a copy of ESWAT and New Zealand Story.

Remember the guy who ran it even, big guy called Chris.

CEX did open up a game shop in Harrow, their second r third store, they were all about import games then. remember them selling Mario Kart 64 for £150.
