There hasn't been a new Pond game since 2011, and aside from re-releasing Robocod a few more times, the character is barely on the radar.
People move on extremely quickly in this day and age, and assuming there's a market for James Pond, even more so when you're turning away the remaining people who do remember him with AI slop, is just the nail in the coffin.
Just sell the rights to someone like Piko Interactive, that's the only way you'll make any money from it now. The franchise is dead, and you've put the nail it.
Always remember going to a boot sale in Hayes in the late '90s, and a seller there literally had a box full of Kieo Flying Squadron 2's for a tenner each.
I bought two, as I knew even then they'd be worth more than that.
Also don't forget the DEMO of the first game is valuable as it accidentally still contains the level select code unlocking the entire game!
But the SMS port is INCREDIBLY grind heavy, it's really, REALLY bad. You can blitz through the PC Engine version. But I never understood why I couldn't progress as a kid. Even thought I was sequence breaking the game when I got to the first boss and couldn't even touch him.
I bought a Saturn copy at launch. But my copy would always crash on the boulder section on the final level. Every, Single, Time!!! So, never finished it until I bought another copy years later.
Ever since that Xbox One showcase, where they pushed the fact you could watch NFL on the system, and forced you to own a Kinect alongside it. You could tell the company was being lead by total incompetency.
@The_Nintend_Pedant Big money, Big prizes, Iiiiii Love it!!!
Indeed, the only other SNES game I can think of with those controls was Smash TV's sequel, Total Carnage. And a lot of games on the system could have heavily benefited from those controls (Ignition Factor, True Lies, Zombies ate my Neighbors Etc)
It's weird that some games even went for bizarre control options, like using two separate D-Pads in your hands to emulate it. Even Goldeneye did that.
I can see what Gremlin wanted to do with Loaded, it was pretty much a top down DOOM, It just didn't work.
Also, it REALLY should have been a twin stick shooter, it's way too difficult with it's current control method.
You could have twin stick shooter controls on a launch PS1 controller too, look at Smash TV on the SNES (and later the port in the PS1 Midway collection)
Also, would have loved to see the never released third Loaded, Fully Loaded on the collection, but I think it's pretty much lost media now sadly. Though Piko have managed to source some lost titles before. Like the Madness Mega Drive game.
I'd love for the BBC to upload episodes of "Total Reality", Their attempt to rival Bad Influence that aired around the same time. They even had a CG Violet Berlin look-a-like hosting it, riding a hover bike.
I can't find anything on it online, and dumba$$ me taped over the episodes I recorded by mistake >.>
@JackGYarwood I saw a while ago Rockstar had an Austin Powers kart racing game in development for the Dreamcast, this was supposed to be released in 2000 too...
But surely Monolith could have pitched a game to Rockstar, they were having a great deal of trouble trying to get the Austin Powers IP to work in a video game frame, and NOLF proved it was entirely possible given the right team.
The Real Ghostbusters arcade game is a pile of sh1t though, just a reskin of a completely different game that was pretty arse to begin with. Why would they want to make a replica of such a terrible game regardless?
Robocop is cool though, but a real quarter muncher.
Beam (well Krome) would also do this again decades with the Aussie manga webcomic, Blade Kitten.
But I remember seeing this game for sale in that tiny budget tape rack in my local newsagent, and thought the artwork was way too polished compared to the art on most of the boxes at the time, was it based on a license?
Which got even more confusing when he appeared in an episode of the original TMNT cartoon.
Wasn't there a story years ago, that the best ever performing barcode for the game, one that maxed out all stats, was found on someone's anti-depression medication?
But, I got one as a kid on holiday, from Argos in Hastings! I almost got a C64GS that holiday too, Woolworths were selling them off for £15 each. But dumba$$ me bought a Catwoman poster instead >.>

That is a shame, I wonder if Rare would have hired Grotbags to voice Gruntilda, considering the character is based on her?

@sbeng135 That's a shame, but if it does contain any USB ports, it might be hackable.

I had a nice chat with Chris Sorrell around the time Deathly Shallows was about to be released. Lovely guy!
Really fascinating to hear about James Pond's history from him that I had absolutely no idea about!
Re: Hands On: G'AIM'E Light Gun - This AI-Powered Blaster Hits The Target
How does it compare to Arcade1Up's iteration of the same set up?
Also, will it be possible to add more games to it in the future?

Very Natsume like! Feels and sounds very similar to their titles, like Power Rangers, and Ninja Warriors Again.

I see the Kickstarter for the "English" one is floundering.
Imagine asking that much money for a console and not even bothering adding a translation option for it.

Re: Digital Eclipse Sounds Keen On Doing A Sega Saturn Fighting Game Collection
I'd have thought, if anyone were to do a collection like this, it would more likely be M2, rather than Digital Eclipse.
But, why the Saturn ports, with the exception of Fighters Megamix, they're all based on far superior arcade hardware?
Why not finally release Racers Megamix?

Re: Shuttered Wonder Woman Studio Once Pitched A Big Trouble In Little China Game
Considering Monolith did No One Lives Forever, and they were up for licences, I'm surprised they never considered doing an Austin Powers game.

I was expecting it to be around £400 tops. But £750???

So bizarre, Sega celebrating the anniversary of a franchise they only ever fully invested in one game.
The sequel was co-funded by Microsoft, and the GBA port was a reskin of a Tony Hawk game.

Its a shame they couldn't get the recently discovered blood/gore restored version of Mortal Kombat 1 on the SNES. People would have gone mad for that.

@mjparker77 Yeah all the home/console versions are based on the cancelled arcade game.
I strongly believe the game is complete. But no idea why it was never released. Maybe because of an influx of arena platformers from around that time?
Re: Footage Of Taito's Cancelled F-Zero-Style Racer 'Vertexer' Appears Online
Still hoping that the arcade version of Taito's Parasol Stars sees the light of day someday.
