@OorWullie Even the fastest speeds theoretically possible would still have noticeable input lag. It's just physics. If you are sending a signal to a server hub hundreds or thousands of miles away and then the game on the server sends the response back, even at the speed of light, that it not going to be as fast as a game running on a machine sitting across the room from you. That is just physics.
@OorWullie That'd be a cool idea, so long as despite the subscription, you still downloaded the game and if your subscription ran out the system locked you from playing it or something.
Rare as a Microsoft studio is little more than a shadow of it's former self. What major titles have they released in the last decade? Kinect sports? lol. Rare Replay? A collection of games from when Rare was still relevant.
I imagine this will please the fans of this new "plug and play mini console" fad. But I have said it before and will keep saying it, I prefer to have the retro games on the Switch. I do not want a pile of these plug and play systems hooked up to my TV. While there is some appeal to collecting them for display pieces, I would prefer to play the games on my Switch.
I feel like, at this point, most people online know about this beast. AVGN did some excellent videos on it years ago, and since then most gaming YouTubers worth their salt have mentioned it in passing. This is a neat read, but I bet not much new that most of us haven't heard before.
Still, I would be interested in most content like this NintendoLife always does a good job of presenting it in a nice clean format that is easy to access.
I bet there aren't a whole lot of these units left in good condition. Think about it, if they were made in 1983, they'd be 35 years old. That's a long time for things to go wrong, break, or simply wear out. Without the fame and nostalgia shared by NES/Famicom and Master system, I bet a lot of them were left to rot in attics or even simply thrown out.
The novelty is real, but I no longer have the time or space to have all sorts of retro systems hooked up. As it is, I am struggling to find room for my "modern" consoles.
@DividesBy_0 Yeah someone else pointed that out to me. I didn't think of it that way, or know about the rip feature. My only question remaining is if it will support accessories and original controllers. If and when the N64 version came out, I would want to be able to use the Game Boy adapter and play Pokemon Stadium for example.
I am underwhelmed so far. I don't see much real benefit to a modular device like this, as opposed to just buying a device specific to the console you want to play, when you have to buy each module separately.
I cannot help but feel that, in order to do it all, and not be outrageously expensive, concessions will have to be made. I wonder if it would just be better to have separate machines that each work very well on their own, than trying to cram them all into one.
Despite the failure of the 32X, I would much more argue that the choice to release the Saturn earlier than originally announced, with so few games, at such a high price, has muuuuuch more to do with Sega's fall from grace. Then the fact that the Dreamcast was again underpowered and outclassed by PS2... well that was the nail in the coffin.
The 32X could have worked, and could have worked well, had it been properly supported and not dropped by the company and forced to compete with their own Saturn.
I kind of resent the 32X because I think its failure was the reason that we don't see console add-ons today. Had the Wii U been an upgrade or add-on for the Wii, instead of an entirely new device, it might have succeeded.
Tokyo is a really cool place to visit. There is a LOT of fun things to do. Cool places to go. Awesome things to see. But it is a city's city. People are always in a hurry and completely willing to plow over you to get by. Tokyo's massive popular is likely the reason for Japan's reputation of overcrowded trains too. And I wouldn't say the people are rude, but they aren't exactly friendly either. I have come to prefer Osaka and Kyoto to Tokyo for most things. More pleasant people, somewhat less crowded, and people are very friendly.
I cannot bring myself to forgive a person who kills his own wife and child, no matter what drove him to it. His wife and child were robbed of far more than he was, and by HIM. If he took only his only life, it would be a tragic story. But what he actually did is vile and unforgivable.
@SethNintendo I approve of your Fire Emblem reference in your username.
You are right, I am sure it isn't too expensive to make. That doesn't mean it's very profitable either. These chips are very product specific I believe, so they need to go out of their way to get them. And any market, flooded with too many products that do the same thing, eventually sees most of them flopping.
@Danrenfroe2016 Agreed, even if there seems to be no consequences, I am not comfortable pirating games.
I feel like a broken record in saying I don't want these mini remakes people seem to want, but a GBA mini preloaded with Game Boy, BG Color and GBA games with a modern screen would actually be quite awesome and finally be a mini done right - it would be a self contained unit and not a plug and play HDMI hog.
Having visited both Tokyo's Akihabara and Osaka's Nipponbashi several times, this looks like an easy English language match for any of the major stores in those areas. That is really saying something. Very impressive.

Re: Polymega's Grand Vision For The Ultimate Retro System Includes A Virtual Console Successor
This somehow seems too good to be true and lacking in enough features to win me over.
Too good because I can't imagine they will be able to get permission and licensing to do all they are promising.
Lacking features because the features I'd be most interesting in using, it lacks. N64, Gamecube, Game Boy, GBC and Game Boy Advance support.

Streamed games are highly unappealing.
Re: Polymega Launch Trailer Reveals Sega Saturn Support
As compatible as that is, I would want Game Boy, GBA, N64 and Gamecube too. Perhaps I will buy into it if we get all of those.
I suppose Game Boy might actually work via the Super Game Boy on SNES.

Info is probably hard to find because it would be seen as bad press and thus was deliberately buried.

Re: Hardware Review: Retro-Bit Super Retro Trio Plus
I wonder how many of these clones will get released before this crazy crashes and burns. The market is getting utterly flooded with these things.
I'd still rather have virtual console support for new equipment, rather than some 3rd party clone.
Re: Hardware Review: Sega's Heritage Deserves Better Than The Mega Drive Ultimate Portable
What an absolute joke. This is insulting to the Genesis/Mega Drive. I am shocked Sega gave permission for them to release such trash.
