It looks less suspicious in the actual commercial, than the head photo of the article.
1 sec of a 30 sec humorous commercial. It fits in a pocket!
Any N64 Magazine fans or former workers lurking in the shadows?
I have a secret:
I own the N64 Magazines review-cartridge of this game.
With the magazine name written in permanent black marker on it by a mystery person, presumably someone in the magazine.
It was won in a competition, where they handed out old stuff from the office.
They awarded it 14% in the August 1999 issue.
"Verdict: An utterly hopeless, consistently appaling leper of a 'game'. Bordering on the illegal."
Speaking of 3D Mario Makers:
I think a "Super Mario Kart Maker" from Nintendo is a not too far fetched 3D-posibility in the Maker-series.
Placing the roads, jumps, powerups, obstacles, enemies and so on.
Driving on land, under water, hang-gliding through the air and driving up walls in zero G.
Different seasons.
Change the time of day: Morning, day, evening, night.
Different weather types.
Different area-types.
Different game worlds from the Mario Kart universe, Mario universe and other Nintendo universes.
Number of tracks or one long track with checkpoints.
Closing/opening up roads on different laps.
Sooo many possibilities one could utilize.
Nintendo did make the Track Editor for the Nintendo Labo Toy Con 3 Vehicle Kit.
I have never played Labo though.
Anyone who tried the Toy Con 3 Track Editor? What did you think of it?
A new Mario Kart is rumoured for the Switch 2,
which is about time as Mario Kart 8 did come out 10 years ago.
It could have a track editor...
I think if Nintendo ever makes a "Super Mario Maker 3D", it will probably be in the more limited 3D style of "Super Mario 3D land" and "Super Mario 3D World", where the levels are more of a 3D-road, than fully open 3D-levels.

What are the Famicom and Super Famicom "cartridges" in this photo? Display items? Magnets? Soaps? Giant erasers? Boxes? Something else?

This looks like a mutated Analogue Pocket.

Interesting.
Perhaps Nintendo will show some prototypes of consoles and controllers in their new museum. There could be things the public have never seen.

@Damo
"This is just one iteration of the console; three other known variants exist, as seen in various magazines from the period:"
Or two other known variants?
The SNES design in photo 1/3 looks the same as in photo 3/3?
The other console in photo 3/3 seems to be some type of NES.

Analogue Pocket plays original cartridges and looks amazing. Analogue Pocket wins.
Re: Random: Modder Turns NES Cartridge Into NES Console That Can Play Itself
This experience reminds me of the square hole video:

The pain is real.
Re: Random: Modder Turns NES Cartridge Into NES Console That Can Play Itself
"his work, which, we should warn you, is often difficult to watch – especially if you're used to treating your gaming hardware with respect."
I did not see that warning until after watching the video.
I think i have PTSD now.
That was 13 minutes of raw horror.
With creativity and lighthearted fun sprincled all over.
I'll just lie down in the fetal position and cry now.
Re: Princess Peach: Showtime! Marks Return Of Goemon Director After 27 Years
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the Nintendo 64 was an unusal and fun game!
Konami could hire Good-Feel to make a remake!
