Looking forward to the Turrican Collection especially, it's Turrican Anthology but on one cart, which is great. Missed chance to include Game Boy and C64 versions, though. And this time there isn't a 1 in the cart name. Not that it would have been a warranty of more carts to come, after all the Evercade has several Collection 1 without a 2.
@slider1983 @JoakimZ As in the Turrican collections for Switch and PS4, the Turricans without a Mega or a Super in their name are the Amiga versions!
As for Taito 3, it overlaps heavily with the Egret II Mini again, but has the first Puzzle Bobble, that I have on Switch but I'd love to have for the Alpha, so I'll wait for a sale on this one.
Great! Now I don't have to buy Turrican Anthology vol. II.
As for Taito 3... again, it massively overlaps with the Egret II Mini line-up, and definitely makes the Taito Evercade Alpha in-memory games obsolete for cartridge buyers.
I can't find what are the platforms it will be playable for. Is it an official Steam release? (highly doubt it) Is it itch.io?
Anyway, I wouldn't say Final Fight needs any introduction. It still gets a lot of love nowadays, although from us players, not Capcom launching new entries, of course.
It hasn't been added to the eShop yet, at least the European ones. I hope it isn't another of the rare cases of Arcade Archives games staying in Japan... I was really looking forward to playing it.
I am thrilled with this. I learned about its existence not long ago, and just yesterday I was thinking I wished it came to the Arcade Archives, given that Video System has some games in it. And boom, next day I wake up with this amazing news!
By the way, two of its characters appear in Aero Fighters 3.
It's definitely less value for money than Rare Replay, which I own and enjoy a lot still nowadays, but yes, the portability is a good point here, and let's face it: most Evercade fans will buy any cart for completion reasons anyway.
I doubted a little initially because I already have 11 of 12 games on a much better package, but I'd like to play them on the go, so I preordered already. And the Conker portable adventure kind of justifies it.
We can expect more overlapping on upcoming -and already confirmed, although without titles announced- Rare Collection volumes.
This is a project I've been following for a long time, and it's sad that for its own nature this can't be released physically. Otherwise it would be a success, I'm sure. But we'll have to settle for the digital free release. Mauro Xavier is awesome.
It has to be the most niche game in the Arcade Archives line. 100%.
By the way, the Arcade Memories vol. 3 for the Egret II Mini has its sequel, Top Landing. And that was a "they must be scratching the bottom of the barrel" moment.
@DashKappei There are several filters and screen options, as well as online leaderboards (I'm currently 4th in the ranking), which helps to keep trying to be better, as if the game itself wasn't addictive enough.
I've been lucky enough to play it after receiving a review code and just finished yesterday after several hours of enjoying it. Absolutely addictive, funny and varied, I hope people don't stop talking about it after a couple weeks. It deserves more attention and success than that.
Not bad. I already have the SNES version on the Evercade (and Saturn version in the original release) but I don't mind the slight double dipping if it comes with other versions I don't have anywhere else.
I'm not going to buy it because that would diminish the "value" of my Egret II Mini in terms of comparisons with the Alpha, but I'm happy that Taito has come to the Evercade family.
Anyway, it's a bit strange that they release these 2 carts yet the upcoming Taito bartop's built-in games are all in them, except from Puzzle Bobble. That is a strange move by Blaze definitely. I know the greatness of the Alphas are the cartridge slots, but built-in games make us decide for one model or another, don't they? If you want Taito cartridges AND the new bartop, it will be as if you bought the console with no games inside.
Great feature. It somewhat mirrors my own experience. I had an MSX at home since I remember, but on school days I wasn't allowed to play it and had to settle for LCD machines. One day someone gave me the Donkey Kong II Game & Watch as a birthday present I guess, and that was to the rest of my LCD systems what Neo Geo was for 8 and 16 bit consoles.
Over time, the Game Boy arrived and I coldly but understandably abandoned Donkey Kong II, but many years later I felt a newfound love for all things retro and looked for it. Today I still have the G&W in my nightstand drawer.
I've not been a fan of illegal ways to play games over the years, I've tried it and it doesn't give me the same satisfaction as purchasing and owning the software. And in Nintendo 3DS it wasn't different, but once the possibility to acquire games on the eShop was gone, I decided to download some games, only a handful actually, that I really wanted but couldn't get legally even when the eShop was still working, namely Japanese ones because of the surprising and absurd exception of the region free policy with portable systems that affected the 3DS.
Anyway, I always thought the absence of a Virtual Boy Console in the 3DS was a huge missed opportunity, there hasn't ever been a console more fitting for those games. So when the news about this emulator surfaced, I knew it was time to finally hack my good old 3DS.
@RupeeClock Does that mean that the emulator has an update? How can I access it? I've not touch the 3DS in a while now. What are the steps to put it to 50 Hz? Thanks in advance!
A few days ago there were news about an announcement by Sunsoft. If this is it, I didn't see this coming nor have interest in this genre unfortunately. I hope someone is happy with the news, though.
I know that these games are available elsewhere, I have dozens on the Switch myself, but I love the fact that this way they can be played on the Evercade Alpha, which is effing great. And for the asked price it's more than OK to me. Besides, the always surprising Evercade game selections mean that some of the games on the three (for now) announced cartridges are totally new for me. Even if they're not top 10. Evercade fans are use to that, and I love discovering not that typical games. Mixed with some absolute gems, the formula is a winner.
@PKDuckman Well, I don't think they want to abandon the standard releases, and the most beefy ones are also double priced, so I expect those to release once a month.
I'm very tempted to pick Estique and Fortified Zone 2 from that website, and that's more than 100 € together, so I'll stick to genres that I prefer. But I salute these efforts, of course.
The need to jump to Super Castlevania IV is growing on me, after dropping Castlevania III for its difficulty (I don't know if it's considered hard, but there was a segment I simply wasn't able to go through, let it rest and a few years passed), and this article definitely gave me that boost.
Dammit, another retro collection of games I didn't even know about. But this kind of graphics is something that I prefer on a smaller screen, so I'll wait for a Switch release that I hope will come down the line.
@IceClimbersMain I understood that the lack of Activision games on the Atari 50 collection was due to the impossibility to get those licenses. Are you saying that it's actually possible. I'll hold on this one then. Llamasoft is a no, because the Digital Eclipse collection has more games and extra material. But it's a great addition nonetheless.
My first thought was "well, I have 11 of these 12 games in the Rare Replay wonderful collection", but then I realized that I would have them on the go.
Sometimes I double dip, sometimes I don't, depending on several factors. I won't be buying the Taito cartridges because I already have those games on miniaturized cabinet form in the Egret II Mini, but this Rare cartridge gives me portability on games I love but for now I have bound to a TV screen.
@Porco Yes, they didn't drop the price. If stock wasn't so small I'd recommend to wait, after all volume 1's price was cut at some point, but volumes 2 and 3 didn't have the chance as they sold out quickly. So this is it, take it or leave it, and it's hard because on top of all things shipping costs are much higher now than a couple years ago on Amazon Japan.
@gojiguy I learned it the hard way, but volume 1 wasn't that small a print as the following volumes.
I should have preordered, yes.
Anyway, that's an interesting approach as for the new collection. Egret II Mini does already have non-Taito developed games, but it will be interesting to see what developers new games come from. Looking forward to it.
@RootsGenoa When I look at the line-up I soothe myself thinking that, but I really should have bought volume 2 in time, and 3 would have been for completion only, but I have to admit that I like deep cuts, I can't help it. I love to discover games I hadn't even heard about before. I guess now it's too late, even in Japan people are reselling all volumes at impossible prices. Taito should have seen people's interest coming and keep restocking the Arcade Memories releases, but they just wouldn't.
I hope this time I don't miss it, because volumes 2 and 3 of Arcade Memories sold out too fast. I was dumb to wait for a price cut, but in my defense I have to say volume 1 did restock several times and got discounted, so I thought it would be the same with volumes 2 and 3. Especially 2 has games I painfully missed, 3 would have been for completion purposes. Let's see what Taito has in store for volume "4"...
I hope it comes to the Switch like other Ratalaika releases. Especially given the nature of the graphics, more suitable for little screens. And no, I don't have a Steam Deck, but Aleste Collection on Switch looks great.
@Krambo42 I'm with you on this one. I'm focused on 8 and 16 bit games, arcade cartridges are the most exciting for me, and I get that there is a lot of people very happy with the 32 bit and indie carts, but before the arrival of SNK and all these new purple carts it seemed that Evercade was moving to more modern things, and I didn't like it.
But hey, 2025 is making up for the few arcade cartridges released in the previous years. I hope it stays this way, but now I'm starting to miss red 8/16 bit console games LOL
One of the most exciting cart announcements by Evercade in the last months, imho.
I already have Windjammers legally on Switch, but it's a game I love, I'll be able to play it on the Alpha when I get one, and I'm really curious about Karnov and Chelnov, both usual cameos in later Data East games. The shooting ones I also did know but haven't played yet. A great cartridge.
