30 years of great stuff. I love the music on Sea of Thieves. I know this is the case for all game music, but I feel it really helps set the tone in the game as it's an open emergent world so the music has a lot of heavy lifting to do. I hope they come out with a special CD set or something.
It's so sad to see. Games are just disposable commodities. Worthless toys when the publisher is done with them.
We're worried about not being able to play NES games on modern platforms etc, but I think a real crisis in preservation is in Mobile games. When iOS moved from 32 to 64 bit a giant swathe of games and apps were lost forever. Even some of the best selling games in massive franchises like resident Evil, Crash Bandicoot, and Super Monkey Ball are basically gone, and can't be emulated (or only experimentally) either.
