Re: "Poorly Analyzed US-Centric Garbage" - Why Do Americans Keep Ignoring European Gaming History?

Robocod

@AmigaBernie Yep,possibly one aspect I forgot earlier was U.S. games making heavier use of floppy disks for games & could pad out their presentation more...eg: Epyx with G.I. Joe, Summer/Winter/California Games, Microprose Sims ala Pirates,Project Stealth Fighter or Cinemaware stuff like DOTC,Rocket Ranger or It Came From the Desert on Amiga, good times!
And the likes of the Ultima or Bards Tale,or SSI Gold Box RPG's which were time munchers!
Point & Click Adventures were my favourite though an exercise in patience on a single drive A500!😅 (especially the shovelware ports Sierra did!)

@mjonesgraphics Some lovely, imaginative & distinctive works over the years! Loved your cartoon Arnie & yep some lovely gems like Darkmere & Dragonstone spring immediately to mind! Love to see spiritual sequels on the latter though probably would need a lotto win to fund that on current console gens!

@mjonesgraphics When I've videogame documentaries on the likes of Netflix, or U.S. centric "YouTube Historians", do the standard Atari 2600,Apple Ii,Intellivison, game crash something something, then Nintendo,Sega,PC just brings to mind American "World Series Baseball" syndrome!🙄😂

As a PAL territory Down Under, never saw a Speccy, rarely a CPC,but saw plenty of C64, Amiga,ST,alongside bleeping expensive PC's,& later Master System, the 16bit & 32 bit console wars...but half felt like PAL territories were regarded inferior as were their games all because of the 50hz limitation from the get go!🤯

Nevermind what UK & EU devs squeezed out of systems like a C64 or Amiga years later that dwarfed what early U.S. made games pulled off!

Always found it a great shame devs I followed from that era ala Apex(C64),Sensible Software,Graftgold, Core Design (referring to their 16bit era before it all became Tomb Raider), Gremlin,Ocean etc. all got swallowed up or didn't survive the "2D is dead",era.😕

Looking at stuff like Lemmings, or Turrican & other UK based hits,(heck even 2D GTA!),& they're all "niche"!!

Just remember Grubb also said the "classic" PS2/PSP era God of War games were gonna get announced for its birthday too....went down REALLY well for the hapless Sony Santa Monica Social media managers!!😂

Rant over. Doffs hat to Mr Jones loved your work if you're who i think it is!🍺

Re: Team17 Co-Founder Martyn Brown Has Passed Away Aged 57

Robocod

Still remember the countless previews/ interviews in the likes of The One magazine, to playing & loving the likes of Superfrog to loving to hate others like Project X or running out of keys or ammo in Alien Breed 1 or 2!😬🤪

Also made Team 17 standout as didn't just re-release their best Amiga hits but treated them to "director cuts",& address review criticisms of their original release but still sold them cheaper than full price...could you imagine a AAA publisher doing the same today?!🤯

Even recall the likes of the Project X follow up X2 on ps1 making the original game seem easy!😱😂 And obviously Worms going from the Amiga to just about everything else at the time like Lemmings did for Psygnosis.

Whilst they still exist as mostly a third party indie publisher today,Mr Brown's hands on approach in tackling most Amiga gaming genres to produce something distinctly Amiga put them on the map.

Much like the late Archer Maclean was unaware he was ill. Can only add to the well wishes of RIP & thank you to recruiting devs & giving them the time to let the Amiga show what it could do,Mr Brown.🍺

Re: More Classic PS1 RPGs Could Be Coming To PS5

Robocod

Been wondering who might’ve had the rights to Alundra (among others mentioned here),as recall Psygnosis published it in the EU/AU at least til its disappearance off the PSN Store.

But then again recall Henk Nieborg (co creator of Lemmings inspired Adventires of Lomax), inferred on twitter one time that Sony had possibly offloaded some of their old Psygnosis IP's years ago. One only has to look at the Psygnosis Discworld titles as ones in IP purgatory at present too. 😕

And then dear old Capcom chooses to lock their PS1 Classics behind PS Deluxe subscription, but is okay selling classic RE 1-3 on GOG!🙄

Would ask Mr Ireland WHERE can one give Playstation feedback/requests? Its not like they advertise a Shuhei Yoshida like person that oversees their classics range! It was only via Time Extension we even learned of Implicit Conversions handling a number of the porting duties!

Fingers crossed.

Re: Last Ninja Collection Will Bring The Classic Beat 'Em Up Series To PC & Switch

Robocod

@Axelay71 Owned the disk versions of the Last Ninja series on C64 & they still retained the level loading tunes, thankfully! Would be a travesty if they were left out!

Never saw Vendetta that came out after the likes of Tusker & Myth, but based off what I played on emulation am sure I'd gotten it...LN3 felt rushed, buggy & lacked infinite level continues, so apart from the amazing C64 intro, just never enjoyed it.

Sadly much like their Switch only Putty & Robocod ports, the lack of a Playstation port would probably see me skip it,albeit PC might be a possibility depending if it could get the likes of a GOG release...but not sure there's much worth that I didn't enjoy already using Vice,CCS64 or WinUAE etc on PC.🤔

Apart from an old PS4 port of Constructor on PS4 PSN store sales once in a blue moon wasn't aware System 3 were still going!! Robocod & Putty were using a different budget label & have a digital code in a Switch only "physical" release! 🙄

Re: Take-Two Shuts Down $2 PS4 Game That Ripped Off GTA: Vice City's Worst Mission

Robocod

Oh noo,the tragedy!😲 Actually never knew it existed!😅 The aforementioned Vice City mission was annoying, though when I played it again via the ps2 on ps4 "classic" version,I found hitting up the dynamite drop off in reverse from top level to bottom made life easier!🤔

Let's hope whomever did the rip-off one never does the Vice City RC Car race,or worse the San Andreas RC Planes or radio tower defence! The OG "Hot Coffee" v1 of those RC Planes with the fuel bug was diabolically hard!!😱

Re: Meet The Company Bringing Classic Games To Switch, PS5 And Xbox "By Mistake"

Robocod

Interesting interview....been wondering if Sony was doing these ports internally or not. As noted by others, there's still a question mark about the PS2 emulation (which the old PS4 ones seem to have most issues on PS5),with that Thrillville game either a PSP or PS2 port depending whom one asked.
Wish Sony would go chasing a wider range of actual classics,eg: Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Resident Evil 2 & 3,Alundra,Adventures of Lomax, Blood Omen Legacy of Kain or PS2 games like Maximo Quest for Glory & Army of Zin, SSX series,NFS, Ratchet & Clank,Sly Racoon or other possibilities over just Disney games!
Heck, one PSP locked title I'd love to see would be Ultimate Ghosts'n'Goblins!

I fear the budget effort Sony has put in to date chasing third parties to fill with genuine classics we're unlikely to see any such titles anytime soon!
