@RadioHedgeFund literally one of the worst takes I've ever read. Nobody has an "obligation" to force kids to play old games. I would actually say that if you want your kids to hate something make them do it before they can do the things they want to do.
At best you open the door and let them explore. If they take to it cool, if not no big deal let them develop their own interests. They don't need to know the history of Mario to appreciate new Mario.
