@asmi8803 I do too. Gaming magazines were one of the things I looked forward to buying when I got my allowance and ultimately when I was old enough to start working.
I also miss the anticipation of discovering what the next big game or story was going to be. I mean, I love the immediacy of the internet. However, there was nothing like seeing a magazine cover and seeing a new game or console revealed for the first time. It was a really great time to be a gamer
Well this was a blast from the past. I remember GameFan being my least favorite of the magazines of that era. Looking at that Mario 64 cover (which is one of the few I vividly remember), I seem to recall the covers being obnoxiously too overdone at times. Though the one cover that seems to stand out in my memory is the one with Vectorman on it. Only because I remember that particular issue hanging around my house for whatever reason long after it's expiration date
@Julien It does seem to. I won't begin to act as if I have ever understood this situation. But it seems to make sense until it gets to those two sentences. The only think I can think of is that the exception really only applies to Nintendo (or whomever the lawful developer/rights holder is at the time). Or maybe it's a case of if you somehow obtained the ROM from Nintendo lawfully. I don't know, lol. I keep rereading to see if I'm missing something
I've only ever experienced one drive fail and that was the Wii and it unfortunately happened during my play through of Skyward Sword. It was awful. Luckily, my mother in law had a Wii as well and I was able to finish my game on hers.
Funny enough, I had found my GameCube in a box long after I had the Wii and it powered up and still worked perfectly. Kind of wish I had cherished my time with GameCube. Such a really underrated console. Also reminds me of my college days. Some great times playing Madden and THPS 3 (amongst many other games)
Polarizing individual. But a good read nonetheless. I also see nothing necessarily wrong in dreaming big. So for that, I’ve never understood the hate towards him. I will say Fable 2 remains one of my favorite experiences ever. So for that, I appreciate his creativity
@Fuz This reminds me of a question I wanted to pose to this crowd on another recent Pokémon article. After listening to the latest Nintendo Power podcast and hearing Pokémon pronounced about 4 different ways, how does everyone pronounce the word. Personally, I’ve always pronounced it Poke-ee-mon. But I’ve heard Poke-eh-mon, Poke-uh-mon. I always have a chuckle hearing the different ways it’s pronounced
I’m always amazed at the snartassses today who always post on Pokémon article “Pokémon is sill a thing?” As if they’ve been living in a cave for the last 20 years. The other is those who continue to refer to it as a fad. No. Furbie was a fad. Hatchimals was a fad. Pokémon is now a legit institution.
It’s one of my favorite franchises. Flaws and all. And it’s no surprise it’s endured and continues to do so in its many forms. Game Freak, Nintendo and all involved hit on all the right buttons to make it take off like it did. Personally, I think the anime was huge in making it work. Not only did it give life to the characters from the game. The original theme is probably one of the most iconic. And I always say think of the most popular or lasting television series and many of them have a theme song that you can’t ever forget
@LegendOfPokemon That's kind of where I stand as well. On pretty much anything really. And this is no judgement on collectors of whatever it may be. I guess if I had infinite space or money, I might feel otherwise. But I don't think I would. It just feel like a waste to collect or purchase something you're not actually going to use.
