Never knew any of the history behind the ramped difficulty but it really does make total sense. It also makes streaming vid's cruel crush of the rental industry that much more fitting and rewarding. It's kind of a pity that kids that rented their own games, comics, etc out--yes, this was a thing too, still is some places--never got the same condemning reward. Unholy psychos, all of them, destroying the games we love.
[edit] Can't believe TE bleeped a valid expression for illegitimate children. Fit the topic perfectly. Guess the topic subjects aren't the only appropriately should-be shame filled ones. [sigh]
I was salivating for this collection for YEARS. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when it was canned: lost code, differences between games being the excuse, you can tell how if you've ever played them, the only two similar are IV and V. Anyway, I would love to see it revived, presuming we're talking faithful recolouration. My heart sank once again when I remembered this may have something to do with SNES-ification: kinda understandable considering V and the Mega Hand, but more seriously, "upgrading" to the most hideous (just look at Rock), apocryphal and literally stunted version, visibly and audibly (i.e. Password Screen anyone?), and I'd not find it difficult to even fake apathy. Given the actual capability of hardware involved--yeah, GB, SNES gold, even Direct Sound--I hope the team sees the true opportunity before us.
Reminds me of those early Bleszinski (Epic Games) adventure games for Windows, though since pre-dating those--Palace of Deceit, Dare 2 Dream--wouldn't be surprised if this inspired those too, particularly D2D's GM soundtrack.

You call someone a thief, they might get pissed. Call someone a name, they may call you a name too. Hurf durf.
