I may never get one of these, but I’ll be interested to see how well this does. It looks like an amazing piece of hardware. Especially the crank. I’ll be keeping an eye on it. It reminds of the idea of the Gameboy. A minimal low budget console succeeding where the technically advanced handheld failed.
There were so many games during the 8 / 16-bit era with brutal difficulty. Without save files as well. Maybe that explains the sales figures. A helping hand to finally see those end credits. I was familiar with the product at the time. It’s good to know the story behind it. Very interesting.
I loved Game master so hope this does well. I wonder if this will trigger any other revivals. Not that there have been that many but there was CITVs Bad Influence, and on channel 4, Bits(N64 era) and then Thumb Bandits which only ran for one season. Probably not as Games Master was the only one with the game show aspect.
You could say what’s the point of magazines when there’s the internet, but they have also seen a... come back with Switch Player and Ninty Fresh. Although I’m not sure how successful they have been.
Using the 2 controller setup enabled you to shoot during end level cutscenes using the second controller. Meaning you could shoot guards or Natalia. If you placed remote mines you could detonate them.
I still have my original cartridges for my retro consoles. Using tech that wasn't intended for the console sounds like a bad idea as it is. I'd never try it. I prefer to own legal copies of games. The virtual console service doesn't have all games but it has a lot to offer. Hopefully Nintendo can release some of gems that haven't been available yet. Terranigma on the SNES.
My favourite title in the series was Micro Machines 96 for the Sega Megadrive. It had 2 controller ports on the cartridge (called a j-cart) for 4 player. It also had a track creator. A really long code was required to load a built track to race on.
Turok 2 was one of my favourites. I liked the varied weapons. The cerebral bore and the laser that bounced off walls. I think it was called the shredder.
