I used to love my Lynx. Many good car trips for me. I'd buy a mini if Atari put one out. (I'd buy a Jaguar Mini too, just for giggles).
I don't understand the issue with recharging though. You would assume that it would be simple to put in a recharge port, or replace one of the other ports. There must be more to it for some reason.
My brother had (and still has) something like this for his Genesis. Not this exact version, but close enough. His has the disc drive built into the machine itself. It was like magic
We would go to the local video store in the summer and do the 2 for 1 rental on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We went through all the new games every summer for several years. It was great, because it gave us a reason to rent games you would not normally rent. The ones we liked, we made copies of, and the ones we played A LOT were the games our parents went to the store and bought. My brother has a Genesis collection full of all gold quality games because of this. It let us try everything and buy the games that were worth it. I think the video store clerks had an idea that we had something going on at home, given the shear number of games we rented. They didn't care though. I feel like we kept them in business for a couple years. We stopped going as often when the Genesis stopped getting new games, and that store closed when I left for college.
The only issue the machine had was that it could only do games that were 16mg and under. Not usually an issue, but sometimes it was.
I miss those days, the excitement and joy of discovery. I can buy all the games I want now, but it's not quite the same. The excitement of a game you didn't know anything about, and discovering it is awesome. That's how my brother and I discovered Gunstar Heroes.
