How this reads to me is: They have a bunch of investors with a bunch of cash, and as they determine which IPs they want to bring back, they will seek out and purchase rights from those holders. It's not terribly obtuse.
There's no reason to go out and acquire a bunch of IPs if you don't have solid plans to use them yet.
@GravyThief Well there's the two dozen other game systems it will play, as listed on the bottom of the article. This will be perfect for vertical screen games for the Lynx, WonderSwan, and arcade. Plus the size is way more portable than a typical DS unit.
So it's widely known that Dreamcast isn't possible on the MiSTer, and if this system is moving to that architecture, then they're losing the only offering the SuperSega had above other FPGA platforms. Even if I believed they were going to releases a product now, it would be absolutely redundant and useless.
This game made a little bit of a splash in 2013 for being a newly released SNES game (although the ROM had been available for years). I just don't think the game was good enough or the IP interesting enough to warrant a revival. I guess we'll see.
Interesting. I wonder if the FPGA console market is a big enough percent of their business that they'll consider creating a division dedicated to supporting it.
It's actually kind of uncanny how close those visuals are to the party levels in Backrooms media. Combined with the music, it conveys a much higher sense of dread than I'm sure it was originally meant to. Not gonna pay those prices for the game, though! This is why we have emulators!
I don't throw a phrase like "doing the lord's work" around lightly, but this absolutely applies here. Edwards has been unearthing some incredible treasures over the past few years. Especially with Geoff's recent passing, these legendary soundtracks deserve preservation and study.

Re: This $75 Handheld Could Be The Best Way To Emulate Nintendo DS In 2025
@GravyThief The “abnormal” part, the vertical screen, is the selling point of the unit, so no.

Re: Gradius II Comes To Analogue Pocket
Not sure why this wasn't mentioned, but this is also a MiSTer release!

Re: If Nothing Else, SuperSega's Latest "Review" Should Convince You To Keep Your Wallet Shut
@Daniel36 If FPGA systems were illegal, the MiSTer project and Analogue would have been shut down years ago.
