Even if you didn't read the manual, the thing says "push" on it and is clearly designed to be pushed to retract the ball bearings holding the disc in place. The notion that - apparently a small amount of - people are only finding this out now just perplexes me.
Next you'll be writing an article on how people didn't realise they can push the plastic tab that holds a DVD/Blu-Ray disc by its centre hole to get the disc out (though admittedly some of those were better designed than others).
