I picked up a Victor Wondermega RG-M1 many years ago and couldn't bring myself to take it apart and hack it up - there's a switch on a hinge inside the cartridge slot that gets pressed down when a US/Euro cart is inserted and apparently cuts power to the system.
I took one look at my Game Genie and my dremel, problem solved.
