To people worried about waste, it is also at the front of my mind with all these experiments. CDs have the option to be locked to launch one game, but they can also be easily reassigned and reused via the software. My intention is to make the physical media feel valuable and NOT get thrown away
People who don't think this concept is useful unless the data is being read from the media, I think you should ask why? These days we have much faster and cheaper modern storage. The suggestion is common from people who are new to the project but isn't a concern to anyone who can suspend their disbelief for a bit and see how effective the trick is
