Re: The Making Of: Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft's Original Open-World Epic

Such great insight. I still have my AC1 collector's edition that I bought day one for PS3. It was truly a special game for me at the time. I was a huge Prince of Persia fan and AC was such an exciting follow up. Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed AC1 and there are few dream games I would like to play more than an AC1 remake. The setting is just so interesting, coupled with the stealth and parkour gameplay; it would be incredible to see the original vision fully realized. Maybe a slightly altered vision with the advantage of hindsight. If Rift lives up to its great potential, maybe we could get an AC1 remake based on Rift's core design.

The one thing I always disagreed with–and it was mentioned in this article–was the idea of not making the parkour traversal/acrobatics a challenge. It would be much more fun if there was a level of depth to the traversal with some challenge which would make the simple act of traveling throughout the world more enjoyable and rewarding for the player. Just some of that special thrill we got from POP injected into AC. Unity had some of this and it was a great improvement. A shame it didn't get refined further for the subsequent titles and instead they went in the opposite direction, sadly.
