I’m currently playing Hot Shots Golf/Everybody Golf/Minna de Golf (specifically this one, the Japanese one) on my JP PS1, and it’s a blast. This game was developed by CAMELOT, the same company that handled the Mario Sports games of the era, so it’s essentially Mario Golf 64 with a super clean aesthetic and the same great gameplay, mechanics and animations and music, but with slightly generic but still lovable old digitized 3D renders. Honestly worth the 3$ + free shipping you can find the Japanese version on eBay. Check out the OST for some seriously chill vibes.

I'm a big fan of the later titles, but find the first few hard to go back to. Great to see another fan out there. The Vita version is my fav.

I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on gba. Perhaps my fav RPG.

@HoyeBoye Awesome 👍 yup they are two separate sequels. The level design isn’t as great as the original but both are fun and worth trying if you want more RK.

Panic Bomber on the Virtual Boy (yes, really).

Finished the game on Very Easy to learn the basics, next will be on Easy.

@HammerGalladeBro Nice! Cherish that Virtual Boy. Virtual boy emulators are fine, but it’s just not the same experience.

@HammerGalladeBro Panic Bomber was a really fun game. Probably one of my favorites on the Virtual Boy, along with Wario Land and Mario Clash. Didn't make much use of the 3D effects, but that wasn't really necessary for the game anyway.

@HoyeBoye Unfortunately my VB is not in the best conditions. It's missing the kickstand and I play in the most uncoventional position possible, but when I boot it up I have one hell of a time (pun intended).

@Servbot_EJ I only have 3 games (Mario's Tennis twice, Galactic Pinball and this one) and I have had Panic Bomber for less than a month, but it already is my favorite. Granted if I hadn't gotten it, I would've gone to the PC Engine version I have on the Wii U Virtual Console.

EDIT: Beyond that, I'm also playing Banjo-Tooie (NSO, PAL version).
I already completed the NSO US version, but I realized the PAL version has Spanish as a language option, so I'm playing it again, this time with the cheats CHEATOSUPERBANJO and CHEATOSUPERBADDY (which made a huge difference compared to my previous playthroughs on the N64) as early as possible, just to see how different it is. That and the fact I'm still stocked my favorite N64 game is availabe on a Nintendo system once again.

Considering it's European Spanish, it already presented me with some questionable expressions if used in Latin American Spanish since the opening movie.

I snagged a CIB copy of Flashback for the genesis for only $12! Even though that appears to be the going rate for a CIB, it felt like a steal for such a great game. After about 5 hours, I feel like I have a grasp on the controls and can play fluidly. Reached Death Tower last night which is the farthest I ever got when I tried the game on handheld years ago.

While the controls take a bit to get used to, the vibe of the world and fluidity of motion keep me so engaged in the game. It’s just beautiful.

Played Batman Returns on my Super NT a few days ago. I always have to do a playthrough of that game this time if the year mainly cause of the setting, but it is one great game. It's probably my favorite game based off of a movie and it's just alot of fun to play.

Just got a Haute42 M16 controller, so I've been playing a lot of Battle Tycoon on the SNES. Mostly messing around in adventure mode, and betting on CPU fights for gold 🪙

@PlusPlusNegative I played through this to 101% completion for the first time two years ago, and I had a blast. I felt the difficulty was overblown, the only part that really annoyed me was one of the minigames later on where you herd beavers.

Been playing through Sonic Adventure for the first time since playing it on Gamecube back in 2004. While the game is enjoyable, I feel like it shows its age and doesn't hold up as well compared to its competitors of the time. Graphically it surpasses them, but in terms of design, I think this game leaned a bit too heavy into cinematics for a platformer title, which slows the pace down more than it should. It plays fine, although the camera can get annoying during the really speedy segments.

I plan to finish it since I never managed to the first time, and I'll probably hop right on Sonic Adventure 2 right after.

Recently got a loose copy of Jump Ultimate Stars for the Nintendo DS. A friend went to Japan on December ad got it for me on a Book-Off.

As of now, I'm playing it for fun. The former Japanese owner had everything unlocked already and I'm not sure if I want to delete the save file and everything it has, including decks from other Japanese players, the Nintendo Wi-FI Connection Friend Code (as useless as it is now), etc.

It's been 20 years already, it's now as old as the Donkey Kong arcade when the Gamecube came out, which is now 23 years old.

I'd say it is retro by how much time has passed since its launch, not much it's technology or power.

Guess I have to state my criteria for a system to be retro, which may or may not align with other people's opinion.
I consider something retro when the first 2 conditions are met, the third one is a consequence of them.

-Be 10 years old.
-Not getting active first-party support, including online services.
-Physical games for it are getting incresingly harder to find locally (be it from retailers or second-hand sellers) and are getting more expensive.

For the DS, these 3 conditions are met.

Played Space Spartans for Intellivison with the Intellivoice Voice Synthesizer Module. I am thoroughly blown away by how advanced this game was, made possible with the voice module AND the 12-key number pad on the controller.
Gameplay is simple, fly to sectors with aliens, shoot them down in a cockpit view, fly to another sector, repeat as needed.
What makes it so interesting is that your ship has 5 systems (Battle computer, impulse drive, shields, tracking computer, and hyper drive) that can be turned on/off, damaged, and slowly repaired (if you turn the repair system on).
The cockpit HUD is a green border indicating shields are on, and a reticle. All other stats are delivered by voice when the button is pressed (energy level, number of aliens in sector, and status for all systems or just a selected system).
After 3 games, I got into the groove and got sucked in. Impressive stuff for 1981!

If I can figure out how to post pictures, I’ll share the Intellivision sideways tower of power and keypad overlay.

@HoyeBoye Nice, many of us cannot retro game that further, I jope you enjoy it.Only reason I know of the Intellivoice Voice Synthesis Module is thanks to AVGN.

By the way,...

@romanista definitely, it's a good alternative to Smash Bros., and unlike Jump Super Stars, Jump Ultimate Stars is more import friendly by streamlining the koma unlock process to an evolution tree instead of figuring out which characters (up to 3 at times) fill an empty panel.

As for myself, I got a CIB copy of Jump Super Stars I bought from a Facebook group in March and I just received it last Thursday. I beat the Dragon Ball battle on J Adventure and watched the credits, but I still need to unlock all the koma.

I'm actually surprised at how different both Super Stars and Ultimate Stars are, kind of like a Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl way.
