Great article and fully agree.

I had both the PS1 and Saturn at the time and enjoyed them both equally, albeit the PS1 provided new games for longer and was slightly better at 3D.

Just because something didn't sell well in the West doesn't mean it was a poor console.

The 2D library is well recognised, but at the time I also loved its approach to 3D and lighting. Games like Quake, Panzer Saga, Sonic R and Burning Rangers showed towards the end of its lifespan what the console could achieve with the right investment and knowhow.

I started to discover the Japanese library circa 2015, and alongside the 2D fighter big hitters I loved the treasures like Bulk Slash, Radiant Silvergun and Elan Doree. Such a huge shame they never made it to the West.
