Look all I want is an FPGA system that runs all available cores, is a portable/console hybrid, lets you dump cartridges and load ROMS from an SD card, and offers save states, fast forwarding/rewinding, cheats and image enhancement. Is that too much to ask?
I know this is iffy territory, but I have to ask. Everyone reviewing the Pocket mentions the second FPGA that can potentially run additional cores going forward. But the device also seems designed to run physical carts rather than an SD card full of ROMs. So what gives? Potential system hacks aside, that second FPGA is useless unless the device actually lets you load ROMs via an SD card, no? Or do they expect to release giant adapters for console games/only let you play those when docked? I'm genuinely confused by the way reviewers are talking about this.
I sympathize with them, assuming they are well meaning, and I might still consider it at a dramatically lower price for it's UI and alleged digital store. But they announced this thing in early 2017 and were planning to release it in 2018. It's less a case of bad timing and more a case of taking so long that they ran aground an increasingly common global crisis.
Anyway, just slap a MiSTer into a hybrid console, give it a nice UI and I'll give you all the monies.
I'm pretty sure the reveal next week is Neo Geo CD: I seem to remember them dropping one or two hints on their forum some time ago. But I would love it to be Sega Saturn or Dreamcast.
