Re: "At EA, We Were Voted The Worst Company In America Because Of The End Of Mass Effect"

Digglerdig

@mariteaux My recollection goes back as far as 1993 when they bought Origin and forced them to rush out Ultima 7: Serpent Isle, which managed to still be successful. But then they rushed Ultima 8 even more and it was a complete mess.

Then the Devs created a massively overhaulled version to apologise to the fans and on the day it was supposed to launch EA canned the whole thing. It was even in print.

Re: Interview: "I Did My Best To Make It Work" - Legendary Localiser On Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, & The "Total Nightmare" Of Xenogears

Digglerdig

I never took the time to look up the Dragon Quest 8 localisation team even though I appreciated it so much. This man is one of my gaming heroes now.

Not only is it some of the greatest RPG dialogue (maybe not for it's overall depth, but for it's personality and craft) but I get so tired of, and barely relate to, the common, sometimes transliterated, awkward American-centric dialogue, now often voiced in the style of Pokémon episodes. Especially when the fantasy setting is born from Europe and more often specifically England.

All DQ games, even builders, are bloody delightful to read. And who doesn't love Yangus? I never thought I would be playing a fantasy RPG with Bob Hoskins! (Soundalike)

@Martin_H This kind of stuff happens all the time. The police are used as revenue protection officers for big corporations.

Meanwhile if you call the police for incidents they tell you to sort it out yourself. A shopkeeper was on the news the other day saying he was told it wasn't worth their time when people were frequently stealing from his shop. Now he has to chase them off with a bat.

Re: "It's Just Not Working" - FreePlay Arcade Will Close Its Doors Later This Month

@La5734 My town got a new high street and shopping centre (entirely owned offshore of course). Our only local games shop tried to renew their lease but were actually denied by the landlord.

They don't even want the indies around. All the indies exist around the perimeter in property not owned by the corp. All they want is beige chains. And now they are desperately seeking a buyer.

Just another case of sociopathic, sycophantic parasites that leech communities and pass the blame when their idiotic ideas fail.

Re: SNK Is Getting A New CEO Following Fatal Fury's Flop

@slider1983 Yeah I already admitted it's almost impossible to live in the modern world 100% ethically. The only option is off grid and some countries make it almost impossible as unlike places like Norway, they don't have a law that allows anyone to live in the wilderness. It's incredibly difficult financially.

Windows 10 came out in 2015 when my CPU was only a few years old. I'm running a stolen copy of that and soon I will be moving entirely to a Linux build with a stolen copy of windows 11 on dual boot for the incredibly rare moments I may need to use it.

I was running games like the last Devil May Cry on an Nvidia 980 I think it was? Might have the model wrong. Barely turn the thing on anymore. Last game I played was Monster Hunter 2 on Emulator last year. And at the moment I'm watching Kaiju movies from the 60s haha.

I don't really see anything new in modern gaming except scale and graphics. Mechanically it's the same or even sometimes less interesting than older games.

Re: SNK Is Getting A New CEO Following Fatal Fury's Flop

Digglerdig

@slider1983 correct. Obviously modern necessity means you can't avoid it entirely. I have to have a phone for work and productivity. But I sacrifice playing new games and new hardware. It was really hard at first tbh and I was kinda depressed about it for a while but it got easier.

Re: SNK Is Getting A New CEO Following Fatal Fury's Flop

@firenze @slider1983 I don't buy any of those products. I'm almost completely done with games unless it's indie. I keep my spending on unethical hardware to a bare minimum (my PC is 14 years old, I still use a Pixel4a, I cycle don't drive, buy second hand clothes) Surprise! I actually do have morals I follow through on haha

(Edited to remove snide remarks haha)

Re: SuperSega Boss Rocks Up In His Lamborghini To Beg For Your Pre-Order Cash

Digglerdig

Yeah a guy who's made videos in a completely threadbare apartment somewhere in Spain definitely didn't just rent/borrow a Lambo like all those YouTube scammers renting private jets for 20 mins to make them look legit 😂

I think you need to amend the title to "a Lamborghini" haha

I guess the consolation is that only 200 out of the entire population of the internet are mugs 😂

Re: "The Project Is A Complete Scam" - The Internet Isn't Convinced By The SuperSega FPGA Console

Digglerdig

@UK_Kev

Here's the story I've written.

The guy in charge is an eccentric Sega fan (is there any other kind?) from a rural town in Spain. I think although he knows it's a scam, he's convinced himself what he's doing is ok. Maybe he's even lied to himself so much he's convinced himself he'll actually end up making the device and it's all just proof of concept so far and that eventually he'll actually make it.

Either that or he is so naive (like a lot of scammers) that he thinks he'll genuinely get away with a big score, and he's promised his friends, the others involved, of a huge payout.
