@Dungeon00X There were 1 game on Arcade, 1 game on MSX2, 4 games on PS1 and 1 game on PS2. I think it sold well enough, otherwise Konami wouldn't have release 26 Goemon games. But they are so "japanese", I feel that was the reason why most of them were not localized.
@Krisi Nice! I feel that it's rare that people prefer the first one like me. We have very similar opinions on the games. I would rank the "main 6 games" like that: LoMN > MNSG > GGA > GG2 > GG4 > GG3
For 2, I think exactly the same thing
For 3, it was ambitious, but it failed in many areas. Soundtrack was not on the same level. It felt unpolished a bit. The future setting was not as interesting as the usual feudal japan setting. And some of the dungeons were a bit annoyingly designed, with tedious backtracking.... That said, I think it's still a good game.
I used to not like 4 because of its space setting, mixed with sports theme. But I now like it. The music is great, the graphics are very good. There are some very good ideas in a lot of stages. I'm not a fan of the minigame bosses though... I suck at Puyo Puyo, I hate that it's a mandatory part of the game.
Goemon is my favorite video game series, I own all 26 games.
My favorite game of all time is The Legend of the Mystical Ninja on SNES. Very unique game, even unique in the Goemon series itself, as later entries didn't focus as much on town exploration, but earlier entries were a bit too tedious. I love its vibe and style, its gameplay, its variety, etc.
I know the general favorite is MNSG, and it's my second favorite, so I can understand. But yea I prefer LoMN.
@Poodlestargenerica The DS game is not bad, but is not great either. There are a lot of Goemon games that are better. It looks good, but the gameplay is very barebones
It's a shame that we only have Mr.Goemon on Switch. I really hope Konami will release a collection in the future, but I kinda doubt it since most games are japan exclusives.
I still continue to hope that they will port The Legend of the Mystical Ninja on NSO, my favorite game of all time.
