Re: Flagship Chuck's Arcade Kansas City Location Closes Without Warning

For what it’s worth, the Trumbull, Connecticut location of Chuck’s Arcade isn’t necessarily towing the Chuck’s party line. It never changed its sign from Fun Spot when it first ā€œrebranded.ā€ If I hadn’t seen news articles I never would have known it was supposed to be a Chuck E. Cheese. There’s no branding inside at all either. It’s a modern arcade just like before, only they’ve added about four classic machines, Donkey Kong, Defender, or some such. If someone wanted brand synergy and a triumphant return of Chuck E. Cheese, they’ve completely pooed the bed with this.

This sounded awesome to me and I wondered if I’d ever get to visit one. Then I saw my own town on the list above! I looked into it and it seems they’ve rebranded a generic mall arcade as Chuck’s Arcade. I haven’t been yet to determine whether they’ve made any actual changes to it. For the past year or so, the arcade has been a very unremarkable standard modern arcade with no retro cabinets at all, and one that not many people frequent. I really hope they’ve made some changes. It’s right near my house, but I’m out of town for a couple weeks as luck would have it, so I can’t check. Will edit once I get to investigate.

So glad they’re bringing it back! I only played this game a bit back in the day, but I thought it was really neat. For whatever reason, the hitscan gun with the muzzle flash struck me as particularly novel at the time and it’s what I remember most from the game. BlackThorne would do something similar a year later. More hitscan weapons in 2D platformers, please!
