Re: Soapbox: The Trouble With Limited Run Games, And How To Fix It

Uncharted2007

I've only purchased 3 games from them over the years...

  • Streets of Rage 4
  • TMNT Shredder's Revenge
  • Jurassic Park Collection

...but the latest was a vast improvement in time to actually receive it. Instead of 6+ months, I got it in 1-2 months.

I think what turned me off of buying more from them was they're overtly political sharing. Keep your stupid agendas out of your business.

Re: CIBSunday: Nintendo Game Boy

Uncharted2007

@Spider-Kev I was in the midst of childhood family turmoil. The possibility of anything gaming related to own wasn't in the cards for a few years. I was lucky enough to get to play NES at a Boys and Girls Club.

Re: CIBSunday: Nintendo Game Boy

Uncharted2007

I was a Game Gear kid growing up. Aside from requiring 2 extra batteries, the Game Gear's hardware was superior. I don't think that can really be debated.

Where the Gameboy got its edge was lower pricing and the game library. Back then, Nintendo was really good at scooping up good third party IPs with exclusivity agreements. This ensured Ninja Turtles, Ducktales and many others would never see day light on Game Gear.

Regardless of the practices, Game Boy had the Nintendo staples and those alone were enough to garner a following. Mix the incredible first party with exclusive third party games and Game Gear simply couldn't compete on the game library side of things.

Re: CIBSunday: Sega Multi-Mega

Uncharted2007

I always wanted a CDX but was never willing to pay the asking price, even a decade after it released.

I think I'd be more willing to pick up a model 2 Sega CD these days. The sleek look of the model 2 Genesis and CD still holds up as one of the best today.

Re: The Reason Sega Lost The 32-Bit War? The 32X, Says Yosuke Okunari

Uncharted2007

32X always felt like a waste of R&D and development resources for games. I was a huge Sega kid in the 90's loving my Game Gear and model 2 Genesis.

When Sega CD was announced with Sonic CD, it looked like the future and I wanted one. When the 32X was announced I truly didn't care. It looked stupid and the price didn't feel justified for a fat cartridge that boosted the power so marginally that aside from Doom, I didn't see a difference.

It definitely was a major factor in the failure of the Saturn... but as others have stated, the lack of marketing and the gunshot start of the race immediately after being shown coupled with being $100 more expensive... yeah... there were many factors. Sega was failing on all cylinders.

It wasn't long before PS1 had 3 great games for every 1 of Saturn's. The developers quickly jumped the Sega ship and Sega never recovered which reflected with Dreamcast.

Re: BAFTA Poll Declares Lara Croft The Most Iconic Video Game Character

Uncharted2007

I'd put her in a solid third place behind Mario and Sonic.

I think it's telling how young the focus group was that they polled. No modern characters should be on that list (looking at Baulders Gate 3). Any character on this list should be at least a decade old and been in more than one game (looking at Arthur Morgan).

The list would be vastly different if they polled a swath of ages.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection Is Being Delisted In Japan

Uncharted2007

@PKDuckman Actually, modern Democrats are self proclaimed Marxist Socialists. They've proven to be severely authoritarian over the last few years in both their actions and words, being well on their way to going full communist.

So no. It's not anything left of Democrats as the only thing they really haven't done is a purge (though that's been threatened by many leftists already)... it is the Democrats.

Now... it's a good time to pick up that extra copy of Ninja Turtles. Might actually go with the Switch version as I already have the PS4 physical copy.

Re: Best Handheld Consoles Of All Time, Ranked By You

Uncharted2007

Touched a nerve on my previous post. I'm not slighting Nintendo, their games, or their fans (you guys). I'm simply saying the top 5 all being Nintendo is odd and very skewed.

As requested, my top 5 in no particular order:

  • Game Gear (nostalgia goggles confirmed)
  • Nomad (it's a portable Genesis)
  • PSP
  • GBA (essentially a portable SNES)
  • Steamdeck (it essentially plays almost all of them)

PSV didn't make it because aside from being incredible hardware and having Uncharted, it's the worst Playstation library ever.

Switch didn't make it because I don't use it as a portable. It's docked 99% of the time. I think the kids used it on a car trip once.

DS/3DS didn't make it because I never liked the dual screen gimmick.

GB/GBC didn't make it because it was technologically inferior to Game Gear. Though did have some good games.

Re: Best Handheld Consoles Of All Time, Ranked By You

Uncharted2007

That's a severely heavy slant in Nintendo's favor. IMO, only GBA belongs in the top 5. I get handhelds have been their thing but when even the original GameBoy is so highly rated over much more capable handhelds, you know nostalgia goggles were activated.

Re: MovieCart Lets You Watch Movies With Your Atari 2600

Uncharted2007

But... why? I m mean, if this somehow existed back then (obviously didn't) I would understand wanting it from a collector's perspective. Heck, I bought myself a Game Gear TV tuner complete in box about five years ago.

But... this would make your eyes bleed and should only be used as a last resort.

Re: Indiana Jones Using Nazi Enemies Is A "Creative Lapse" Says Fate Of Atlantis Director

Uncharted2007

It's not a creative lapse at all but a reminder that Nazis are the enemy... not just in what their actions caused but also by their belief system. Something that is rearing its ugly head in the modern world with othering, collectivism, destruction of history, and forcing ideological compliance in grade schools.

History is really close to repeating itself and that should scare the hell out of everyone.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Handheld Of All Time?

Uncharted2007

I'm not big into handheld gaming anymore but my top three are:
1. Game Gear - I still have my Game Gear. Took it everywhere with me as a kid. Sonic on the go was epic. This was the height of handheld gaming for me.

2. PSP - Way ahead of its time. Great game support but I also watched movies and listened to music on it when I rode the bus to work and back.

3. GBA SP - Like having an SNES in your pocket. Great games.

Re: To Make Sense Of Xbox Multiplatform Rumours, We Need Only Look To The Past

Uncharted2007

@Poodlestargenerica Fully agree. PS5 is the worst traditional Playstation (Vita is still far worse) from an exclusive game perspective. I've had mine since launch and only found two generation exclusive games I care about and both are multiplatform.

Back on topic though, Xbox no longer being in the hardware business makes sense when you know Microsoft aligns itself with the globalist oligarch ideal of the masses "owning nothing and being happy". It was just a matter of time for them to go all SaaS.

The real question here is what games will go multiplatform and will those games get physical releases? There's been a trend as of late where publishers opt for digital only. I personally can't stand that crap.

Re: Poll: What Is Rare's Best Game?

Uncharted2007

I honestly didn't like DKC 2 as much as the first.

My top 5 Rare games:
1. Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
2. Battletoads (NES)
3. Killer Instinct 2 (Arcade)
4. Goldeneye 007 (N64)
5. Star Fox Adventures (GC)

They had a great run before becoming trash.

Re: Dreamcast, Sega's Final Console, Turns 25 Today

Uncharted2007

My game store had imported the Japanese system with RE Code Veronica before the American launch. Some had imported their own VMUs to play through the game at the store. They'd have a line of people wearing them on lanyards. The cinematic opening to the game is still incredible.

There was no reason to not buy a Dreamcast with it being only $200. I had skipped the Saturn in favor of the PS1 but by the time Dreamcast was incoming, I had a job and lots of expendable money.

I went to the midnight launch on 9.9.99 and picked up Sonic Adventure, Blue Stinger and Soul Caliber with a VMU and extra controller. Something had happened to the delivery truck that had half the items so I had to return the next day (an hour drive one way) to get Sonic and the VMU.

Favorite Dreamcast games:

  • Shenmue series
  • Sonic Adventure
  • Soul Calibur
  • RE Code Veronica
  • Power Stone

Re: Best Wii Games Of All Time

Uncharted2007

Mostly Wii, but also PS3's horribly implemented SixAxis instilled in me a burning hatred of motion controls. One of the specific games that added to that is on this very list... Zelda Skyward Sword.

The forced motion controls had to be so accurate and the teaching mechanic was half-assed at best. It ruined me on Nintendo from that Zelda game's release until Switch released under the promise that I could play how I wanted, emphasizing the Pro Controller.

Sure, Wii Sports was novel, but there were no bright spots about the Wii for me.

Re: Dev Shares Footage Of Unreleased 'The Incredible Crash Dummies' Game For SNES

Uncharted2007

I was big into the Crash Dummies. I loved the action figures and enjoyed the Game Gear game. The early CG cartoon, even back then, was pretty bad.

The figures were cool because they had two buttons on the chest. The top one ejected the head and arms. The bottom one ejected the legs. The car you could put them in had strategic engineering so that when you crashed it into something, the bumper would press in, crunching the hood, and pressing the center of the steering wheel into the chest of the driver to make them also explode on impact. The roof came off, the windshield would fly off and the front wheels ejected all in one crash. It was spectacular and only took moments to reset for the next crash.
