Also seriously impressive how much they achieved with the tech they had - it's amazing how advanced they were in terms of eSports and cross-continent online play.
Similar feeling to learning of the tournaments they had in Spacewar! in the early 60s - it seems unbelievable these groups managed to achieve so much with such early technology
I'd never heard of these centres - was born in the 80s but more of a 90s child, and only got into Battletech after reading Assumption of Risk at the library attached to my school.
It was by Michael A Stackpole, truly one of the best science fiction writers in my opinion.
More novels and source books drew me in, never played the tabletop game really but think I've played every single PC game made in the world, from the great MechCommander series, Battletech recent game and all the MechWarrior series to MW5 Mercs.
It was a huge part of my early teenage years and quite a bit of my gaming life since, so I owe a big debt of gratitude to Jordan - just wish I'd lived near one of these Battletech centres when they existed, I'd have wasted so much money and time in there!
I adored Mafia when it first released, still remember it as one of the best games I've ever played story-wise, with a 3D open world and beautiful old cars to drive in it - gameplay could be frustrating but it was worth it.
I've avoided the definitive edition as I still remember the story and worry the gameplay etc will ruin the nostalgia for me - but may eventually give in.
This is definitely another game I'd have tried given the engine and part of the same software house - shame it didn't release over here. If I can legally get a copy (or if true abandonware) I might give it a go yet...

I mean I think we all want scalpers punished, but I probably wouldn't want them shot...

Re: The Making Of: Metropolis Street Racer, The Origin Of The Project Gotham Series
Loved PGR, didn't know these guys also did F1 and F197, which were some of my favourite and most replayed PS1 games.
Always thought those were Psygnosis - never realised it was a publishing label as well as developer, feels a bit sneaky
