My first CRPG was A Bard's Tale on the Apple IIe. It was incredible and difficult, and was unlike the games I'd played until then which seemed aimed at children. It got me very interested in RPGs, which eventually led me to Final Fantasy (the original) on NES and hooked me on fantasy forever.
Wizardy to me was a boogie man. A nail-bitingly hard game that I wanted to love, but I could never get past my ineptitude. Even though it existed, I found most of my joy for fantasy RPGs was being served by online MUDs and MUSHes in the late 80's/early 90s, which eventually became the Everquest and WoW-style MMOs that I am thoroughly addicted to today.
