As a lifelong gamer who fondly remembers a time when gaming wasn’t the multi billion dollar bull in the China shop it is today, I was actually looking forward to Amico as a third pillar console for my daughter and me. I was genuinely intrigued by the controller, and I actually liked the idea of a library that only had family friendly games.
I think that, most of all, I’d just really like to see the little guy succeed for once. Gaming is spiraling out of control, in my opinion, and I’m actually losing interest. I was combing the rack of the PS5, and I was astonished to see that most of the available games are also on PS4! For the first time ever, there is nothing about the new generation that excites me, save for Elden Ring which...I CAN GET ON MY PS4!
Honestly, I was interested in this as an easy to play alternative for my daughter and me to mess around with. Also, I would like to see somebody outside of the big three succeed in the hardware realm.
Honestly, it’s kind of depressing how gleeful people seem about the console’s potential downfall. Honestly, I would like to see the future belong to more than just multi-billion dollar companies. Indie developers have proven that there is more to gaming than AAA experiences, so why can’t something like Amico succeed? Personally, as a multi-console owner, I think it looks really cool!
100%! It’s amazing, the library of games it had. If it would have lasted, I’m sure Shenmue II would have landed stateside, it would have received Super Monkey Ball, Billy Hatcher, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and maybe even Sonic Heroes. I’m sure it also would have received a port of Soul Caliber II.
Honestly, I would have rather had Dreamcast stick around than the arrival of the Xbox.
I would totally be into this if it had more variety. I love Metal Slug, but they’re basically the same game from one entry to the next. Did we really need so many of them? I’d rather have two entries from each major franchise to make room for the games that aren’t here (Street Hoops, ‘Nam 75).
I would have to hold one of these and test it out before committing! The fact that it has two of my all time favorite games (7800’s Food Fight and NES’s Nightshade) makes this a tempting curiosity, but if this is a cheaply made piece of crap then I’m not interested.
The yawn cannot be overstate---wait, did you just say Imagic classics reborn??? Tommy Tallarico is the CEO?? David Perry is involved? Okay, I'm listening. They're already giving up more information than anything Atari has offered with their own empty box of promises. It's going to be a tough sell--my living room is already cluttered with retro goodness--but I'll keep an open mind.
Exactly. I mean, it’s a console that is such a complicated mess that Sega themselves can’t even emulate it properly! I would love to see proper Saturn emulation, but I think that I’ll see an arcade perfect port of Primal Rage before that happens. We’re better off buying the dedicated hardware, sad (and expensive)as that is.
I don’t trust it. As much as I would love to replay my favorite Sega CD games (Willy Beamish, Dracula Unleashed), I don’t have much faith that they’ve actually cracked the code on Saturn emulation, a console whose architecture is notoriously complicated.
It seems bizarre for them to release a Sega Saturn controller when no Saturn games are currently available and, outside of maybe Nights, I don't see any of them being rereleased anytime soon.

Re: Tommy Tallarico Has Stepped Down As CEO Of Intellivision
“Amico is for families, so no foul language.”
Okay, so Amico is the Wisdom Tree of 2022?

@Gwynbleidd
As much as I do love the first party games on NES, it’s the third party classics I still go back to.

I don’t understand why the MD’s sound channels are so hard to replicate!

Well, there goes any hope of seeing Donkey Kong arcade released as part of Nintendo's arcade classics lineup. Tarnashian!
