Re: Review: Evercade Alpha - This $250 Bartop Arcade Is A Glorious Gateway To Hundreds Of Retro Classics

Bod2019

Just a guess, but I’m assuming neither of the system specific games (Street Fighter, or Mega Man/Final Fight) are available on the mentioned separate cartridges?

I’m not 100% familiar with Evercade, but I thought I’d read before that the Capcom licence was for console exclusive release only, and not cartridge releases (?). Hence to play these on Evercade, you have to buy all the different machines.

Re: Pre-Orders For FPGA N64 'Analogue 3D' Are Open Now

@jamess @jalex_64

Personally, I’ve bought the Pocket and Mega SG at initial pre order stage, and I’d memory serves me right, neither were offered with videos of the system functioning.

They had renders with gifs running on a screen of the pocket for example, but there was no indication or suggestion that was actual footage from the device.

I could be for forgetting something, but I just don’t think putting out videos of the system working, at this stage is a thing they do.

I’m ordering on the basis I have purchased a good few products from them in the past and all have delivered and met my expectations.

Re: Think PS5 Pro Is Too Much At $700? The 3DO Would Like A Word

The history lesson in this article suggests that all equitable predecessors were perceived overpriced and the cost greatly reduced during its time on market.

On another note, is anyone else sensing an increasing downward spiral of this industry, there doesn’t appear to be much of a spark left anymore, it’s all become stale, lacklustre and expensive, yet with no sense of ownership as games are removed from stores and servers are shut down. Expensive technology can be justified to enthusiasts, but there has to be something compelling about it.

Re: MiSTer FPGA Now Supports The Sinden Light Gun

Bod2019

I’ve always been intrigued by the Sinden Gun. And often contemplated creating a PC based emulation setup for all the classic arcade light gun games.

To be honest that might still be the case, as the mister, from what I’m reading, is not currently running things such as Time Crisis, House of The Dead, Virtua Cop etc..,. (Arcade versions I’m referring to).

Re: Genesis Virtua Racing Port Almost Cost As Much As The Console Itself, Thanks To The SVP Chip

@Ristar24

In the UK this game was £70. It was the most expensive Mega Drive game at that time - Super Street Fighter 2 was quite pricy I remember, due to the memory side of the cartridge.

I recall reading all the magazine promos for this, and repeatedly visiting my local game store to play the pre-release demo they had playing on their stands.

I was lucky enough to get a copy at release from my Mum’s catalogue (Littlewoods, or something like that) only to have the case arrive and not work correctly in my original Mega Drive, the graphics were all corrupted and the car was driving/flying through the sky. Very bizarre.

Regardless of the comparisons with the SNES, this game was a tremendous feat for the Mega Drive at the time. I’d say you had to be there at the time to understand how much of a leap this felt.

Re: Evercade EXP-R And Evercade VS-R Consoles Launch This July

@Serpenterror
I agree, though I do seem to recall an interview recently with ablaze, when Glover was announced and a question was posed about an analogue stick in the future, which was answered with something like “we’re considering/looking at it”

Certainly N64/Dreamcast and later life PS1 would benefit I’d guess.

Re: Evercade EXP-R And Evercade VS-R Consoles Launch This July

Bod2019

Didn’t they announce more hardware was to be released toward the end of the year.

I suspect higher tier versions with more features, perhaps even a dockable handheld system is likely I’d guess.

Perhaps maybe even an analogue stick to cater for games on Giga carts that are from newer systems(?)

Re: How Modders Are Overcoming N64's Hardware Limitations

@Poodlestargenerica

Exactly this. They were a good step forward when the ‘Ultra 64’ first emerged. When I first saw an imported copy of Mario 64 and managed to have a go I was sold with that ‘new’ analogue control. But the graphics were great, and the softness/blur just became the signature style of the N64

Re: Beloved TV Show Knightmare Is Getting A New Fan Game For The ZX Spectrum

Bod2019

Loved this show, perfect after school viewing. Totally agree with the sentiments regarding a modern day remake.

Surely a simple at home ‘room scale’ variant is easily possible whilst casting to a separate screen, perfect as a family/group game with VR (I realise the player wearing the headset shouldn’t really be seeing anything - as per the show).

Re: Hands On: Exploring The Future Of Retro Gaming With Polymega

Bod2019

Keeping a close eye on this. I don't own many old games, maybe x20 or so MegaDrive, x5 or so Mega CD, x10 PS1 and around x9 NES games. At present I only have the NES, which remarkably still works.

I've tried retropie, it's good, but still doesn't quite feel right.

I'm torn as to whether I should be interested in this, like I said, I don't have a massive collection. Confused, but definitely intrigued.

Re: Random: The Legendary Sonic Formula One Trophy Won By Ayrton Senna Still Exists

@AlexOlney

Perhaps if he wasn't repeatedly whipping it out of his pocket he might of done a little better in the race. Probably developed issues with his eyesight. I'm guessing Ayrton Senna wasn't 'gifted' a game gear.

Also, who was that child too busy playing prince of persia (probably) on his game gear, he couldn't spare the time to look up at the speeding F1 cars. I don't know the youth of (yester)day.
