@RossoftheRobots I originally got it to use on switch as I have a few Neo Geo games on there I updated it on 8bitdo website both the adapter and controller which took only a couple of minutes but I thought I would try it on the A500 as the button layout is similar to the cd32 layout and by chance it worked and everything functions as it should you can bring up the keyboard save your games exit to the carousel and shutdown the system using the controller so I guess it was a happy accident 😂 but I don’t use anything else on the A500 anymore
@RossoftheRobots it works really well and it’s button layout is similar to that of the cd32 and of course it’s wireless plus it has the clicky stick which makes it feel like you are using a micoswitched joystick
I love the look of this but the controller rules me out as a left handed gamer I would like to know more about what controllers work and function properly on it. I have the A500 mini and use the 8bitdo Neo Geo with the 8bitdo adapter 2 and it’s great works a treat on games and also manages to retain all the features of the original supplied with it
The US versions were available in a few colours I have transparent blue black and green but yeah the European versions were just available in grey/off white . I’ve always thought since they do many colours of the console shell why not do vmu and controller shells in matching colours I had to get a black transparent controller from Japan to match my console which wasn’t cheap so if someone did a full range I’m sure there would be many people willing to purchase these
I’ve definitely noticed it but as said in the article I always assumed it was the castle in the distance but surely it would appear in later levels as you get closer perhaps someone at Konami can shed some light on it
The Dreamcast is clearly the best thing Sega ever produced the mega drive is awesome but come on even the build quality is far above anything that Sega produced and then you have the amazing library of games various ways to output the Dreamcast vmu all the different peripherals the mega drive has some great games and can even be emulated on DC if you were to look at it from a perspective of someone just starting out collecting retro consoles the Dreamcast is much more of an exiting prospect
Just fixed my PlayStation 2 it’s been sat in a cupboard with a damaged output socket for about 3 years been to cex this afternoon and bought Tekken tag and I’m really enjoying it but as said in a comment above I thought Tekken 5 was held in high regard hence the reason it was remastered on psp
@Banks I know it is technically a control pad but the Namco negcon is awesome really responsive playing any of the Ps1 ridge racer games with it is superb also works on ps2 ridge racer v and others like wipeout it looks ridiculous but is so good
@Banks fair enough the fishing rod was quite limited and it was a novelty playing soul calibur and tennis with it. I have seen the ds version of guitar hero but never actually tried it might see if I can pick it up cheap and give it a go
@NewBond the original Atari joystick was a nightmare for me I always wondered why they couldn’t have put a fire button on both sides it was virtually unplayable as a left handed gamer
Played all the guitar hero games to destruction back in the day really miss those type of games. Why no love for the Dreamcast fishing rod that was amazing when it first came out not only could you play sega bass fishing but soul calibur and virtua tennis way before the Wii was even a concept
@Sketcz the Jp logo is orange US is red but I think it was some kind of copyright issue that forced Sega to use the blue swirl but it does look better than the others
@gb_nes_gamer the A500 mini is definitely worth getting especially at that price if you’re a fan of the Amiga it’s one of my favourite mini consoles really easy to add your own games
One of the highlights of cannon fodder on Amiga was the music but really the MD version still kept the playability sensible soccer was also very well done for the mega drive this looks like a great collection definitely getting this
Gonna boot mine up later I have had issues with buggy boy / speed buggy running ridiculously fast to the point of being unplayable not really encountered it with any other games glad to see it’s still being supported
That is a cool name it’s like when the Dreamcast was in development it was called katana I think that sounds a lot cooler but would it have been met with negativity by the media at the time
This looks cool I use my Dreamcast arcade stick all the time so it’s taken a bit of a beating over the years would love one of these as a replacement and the built in vmu is an amazing idea
@sdelfin I have used rechargeable batteries since I’ve had it and it’s fine have 2 sets of batteries so I can always keep it going one feature I really wish it had would be a sleep function I think that’s vital for a handheld
@belmont I got mine brand new and I honestly have had no issues with the build quality I suppose the batteries was done to make it authentic to the original there is a mod out there to use an internal rechargeable battery but I’m fine with it as it is
@belmont I have a retroflag gpi with a pi zero and it’s great GBA emulation is pretty spot on it does struggle with more modern systems but they are dirt cheap
The Amiga had some outstanding games the games that were ported to consoles like speedball 2 and the chaos engine were always better on Amiga I would recommend slam tilt if you like pinball and stunt car racer is still awesome even today
@gojiguy it does work on switch but you need the 8bitdo adapter 2 and just do a small update on both the adapter and controller it works really well I have quite a lot of Neo geo games on switch it’s great to play them with an authentic feeling controller. Just tried it on my mega drive mini and it works on that too
@sdelfin yeah always wondered why ,like you say Alien v predator is on capcom home arcade but not available as a standalone title for current consoles. I play Neo drift out on Dreamcast using neo4all it’s a great game but there is a lag with the sound plays perfectly tho just always wanted it to be released on switch
Neo drift out is a superb game should be part of the arcade archives releases but I guess they were keeping it back for this I just thought it was cos of the licensing but I guess they renewed the license for this. Bang bead is pretty addicting it’s great with 2 players
@TeamBigRig I have the mega drive/genesis controller it’s great I use on my original MD and MD mini it actually feels like the original MD 6 button that’s why I was interested as to what retrobit was gonna do for the Dreamcast controller but I like this it kinda looks like a switch pro controller
Been looking into a wireless solution for the DC this looks great I actually like the little VMU pod hope they do it in black transparent . Whatever happened to the retrobit Dreamcast controller I heard they were making one a while ago but can’t find any more info
I remember playing H.E.R.O on C64 and Hunchback loved those games still play them today on C64 mini I also remember getting Wizball for free in a bundle and for whatever reason didn’t play it but when I did I was hooked
I find those release dates odd as the European version actually has improvements over the Japanese version if you play them both the JP version kinda feels unfinished in many ways I would have thought there would have been a massive gap between releases as Europe was always an afterthought in those days great game tho and it still looks nice today the level with the horse is amazing the galloping sound and the music is outstanding
This is great news love the Neo Geo cd controller switch compatibility would be amazing seeing as I have a lot of Neo Geo games on it but I suppose this would work with the 8bitdo wireless adapter
@mjparker77 yeah I agree outrun 2 has much more of a flow to it you can drift from one corner into the next effortlessly where as it feels a bit janky in slipstream
The Dreamcast was an amazing console with so much potential but it seems like Sega was a company at odds with itself every story that I read about them points out the fact that Sega Japan simply didn’t trust Sega of America it’s such a shame as in the megadrive/Genesis days they gained a decent market share but that was cos of the fact they let Sega US tailor the software to that region
Wave game studios have it in stock from the original print run I’ve bought a couple of Dreamcast games from them and they have been great super reliable and reasonable prices cheaper than pixel heart
The Japanese converters that were available in the early 90s were such a waste of money all you had to do was file off the little edges that stick out on the MD cartridge slot and away you go but in all honesty the only game that wouldn’t work was Rolling Thunder 2 strangely a lot of European games wouldn’t work on a JP MD like sensible soccer Choas engine. It’s hit and miss my MD has been modded for years and is switchable between 50/60 Hz and that seems to be something to do with it for example sensible soccer won’t work if I boot it straight from 60Hz however if I boot it in 50Hz and then switch it to 60Hz after the sega logo then it works perfectly and that’s the same for a lot of games
